  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - DJI Ronin R2

Do you know if its possible to be part of the GB and participate to the old Ronin exchange program?

And is there a possibility to have a list of the accessories DJI are planning for the R2?
Could be great if we could be able to order them at the same time as the gimbal.

I know a lot of the accessories have been revamped/changed and are a better design. So no, at this time, it's not a part of that exchange program.

Ok kids. Here's the group buy you guys have been waiting for. The much anticipated DJI Ronin R2, which was announced this year at NAB, is finally ready to launch/ship. I've been using a pre-production model for a short bit now, and I have to say that I'm incredibly impressed with the performance of this thing. The motors are incredibly strong, not only allowing the user to use heavy payloads without the motors breaking a sweat, but also providing stable footage in high wind environments as well.



People complain about the weight of the gimbal. Yes, it's heavier, just shy under 3 lbs heavier than the MoVI Pro, but there's a lot to be gained for that added weight:

* You can successfully run the RED ecosystem of cameras for extended periods of time, directly off the R2 batteries. Expect to get roughly 2-3 hours (depending on which DSMC camera you're using) for every 2 batteries. They charge in about an hour and a half too, so theoretically, you could get by with only 4 batteries on set if you have power for charging. Other gimbals claim to power the camera and not have any issues, but I have been plagued with camera/red touch performance while trying to power my Weapon Helium off gimbal batteries before. The R2 batteries are made for the high current draw RED cams need/require!

* You can put a 30lb camera package on the gimbal. Even fully built up, most cinema cameras nowadays aren't 30 lbs, even with a bigger lens, so it's safe to say, that the R2 should be able to handle anything you throw at it.

* There are built in extension arms so when you have a longer/heavier camera setup, you can extend the main control arms out, giving you more room to work with.

* There's a safety dovetail on the camera cage itself, so you don't have to worry about your 50K camera package sliding off the cage when you're trying to balance

* All the balance adjustments are done without tools as well as being ruler marked, so you can get your balance the same every time and more quickly

* You can remove the bottom part of the DJI ring if you're in a compact environment or you just like operating without the bottom part of the ring

* Integrated SDI and power cable management (why all gimbals don't already do this baffles me)

* All Axis are able to lock with the click of a switch - which makes balancing and transporting MUCH easier

* The built in gimbal control screen is touch sensitive, so you can more quickly access and adjust gimbal settings/controls

If you would like something like this, DM me and I'll get it coordinated. Would be a lunch time thing (lunch provided) and you'd be able to test out a lot of R2 camera combos/setups.
