  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - Digital Sputnik DS1

Okay, I know it's slightly off topic, but those Voyagers are pretty awesome. I ordered the 2' early bird kit. Trying to decide if I need a 4' early bird kit as well. Too bad I couldn't order both at once to combine shipping.

I'm curious, how are you planning on using them? I'd love to hear some inspiration!

Hi all,

Just wanted to update the thread. I received my lights this week and they're absolutely incredible. I can post some pictures if you like.

I come from a theatrical lighting background, so setting up the DMX Art-Net control was fairly straightforward. If you're wondering how to control your lights via WiFi, here are the steps I took.

On the Fixture

Remote -> WiFi

Art-Net Universe -> 0 (default)

DMX address/offset value
-> Fixture 1 = 1
-> Fixture 2 = 11

It is critical that you re-address the second fixture in your package. If you do not, both fixtures will be taking the same DMX commands because they are on the same DMX address. I read someone having this problem on another forum and this is not a fault of the light, just user error :)

In your phone's WiFi settings

Join the DS WiFi network

In the DS Control DMX App

Settings

Make sure "Broadcast" is ON

Click "New Group"

Long press on the group to select "EDIT"

Just type 1 and click the plus sign, then 11 then click the plus sign.

That will set DMX channels 1 thru 10 as your first fixture, and dmx channels 11 thru 20 as your second fixture, as long as the Art-Net universe is the default of 0, and the control scheme is "DS8B"

The DS app will automatically calculate the correct DMX values, and send them via Art-Net protocol automatically. All you have to do is just paint with light.

Thanks Alexander for these instructions. Is there anyway to control both lights within the app, without having to switch your phones wifi connection from one lights address to the other? Right now each light has it's own unique wifi address and I can only control whatever light i'm currently connected to.

Oh nevermind! I figured it out. Followed Tucker's instruction from a few pages back! Thanks guys!

Hello
I will look into making an extension cable a cheap as possible will report back

3. Documentation. Our main weakness at the moment and we are very hard at work to rectify the problem. We are making quickstart guides and videos as I write this. I hope the new homepage will be up next week and the documentation should follow soon.

Hi Kaspar,

Can you please provide an update on the PSU extension cable and documentation? I see there is a one-page PDF on your website, but that's not really enough to train someone on using these lights :)

Also, congrats on the Voyager campaign success! Really looking forward to those in the fall!

Really enjoying these lights.
These photos were taken in less 1 min. with 2 lights. Do that with a set of gels and C47s and then back to the camera...
Thats how fast you can change color setups. As fast as I could change the lighting setup and then go to my iPhone camera and take the picture and then back to the DS1 app.
Amazing.

Hello Sputnikers,

I've misplaced my "1 x double sided holographic diffusion 34/76 degrees". Is there anyone in LA willing to rent it for a day (tomorrow, Sunday) or even sell it to my and I'll buy them a replacement, etc?

Needed for a shoot tomorrow in Los Angeles.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is there any chance that this will be offered again?

I am curious to know what the light output at 100% of the light's 20 degree spot 1, 2 or 3 meters away in lux or foot-candles are? This can help me gauge the real intensity of the light.

Huge thanks to Charles Bergquist for helping me out in a jam! Thx amigo!

Just picked up one of these, is the only place to get the softblade through Digital Sputnik?

You can build a softblade out of chloroplast / foam core. Much lighter. Suspecting a new version will be made that will be lighter weight. Maybe Kaur?

I have a show here in Atlanta looking to rent (6) DS1s for a week. Between mine and Chris Fenner we have 4, but I'm still looking for 2 more. (1) week rental at the moment but the DP has specifically requested these so may be looking for multiple week rental. Anyone here who has received their lights from this group buy interested send me a private message. We need them in ATL by tomorrow and they go out to the feature wed.

Mines are in Bermuda. I wouldnt mind shipping them if its a multi week rental.
