  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - Digital Sputnik DS1

Tempting, been thinking about this. There is the hive C100 to consider as well, but the design of the DS1 is so much nicer.

I'm interested in the soft blade and finding out when the cut off date is.

But i understand from other posts that the DS1 is really a soft light. Because of the form factor i had it more like a Nila, with different spreads.
So i presume it's not possible to focus the light into something harder? The list mentions 34/76 degree diffusion, so a 34 degree beam is possible, or does it not work like that?

cheers
Paul

Check out Kaur's reply. The DS1 is NOT a soft light though you can soften it using diffusion or the Softblade. And yes, the included filter does shoot a 36 or 76 degree beam.

I take one and maybe a seconde one. need to check some stuff.

so if you merge 2 unit, can it be controled by only one DS1 power suply?

ABout the 2 PSU's and driving, as of V2.0 it is not yet possible but it was on V1.x (unfortunately does not support DS1). We expect the feature to be back in V2.5 release around July this Year. To drive all units as one use the iPhone software and DMX and give the lights the same address.

Thank You

Hello

The DS1 Produces a hard 20 degree light without diffusion which has very good throw. Diffusion can soften the light to 34 or 76 degrees.

That's great to know. It's actually in the other DS1 thread on reduser where Kaspar says that these are not spot lights, but area/soft lights. So it's bit a confusing when someone from the manufacturer says that. Without the diffusion then the edges of that 20 degree beam are going to have multiple shadows. Is there any reference online as to what this naked beam looks like?

many thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
I could not quickly find the referred post about softlights, but technically it is true. What I mean by this is that the light cannot be cut at close distance like HMI Fresnel - You need to use flags to shape the beam. Also the shadow will split up (colored edges) without diffusion if the silhouette is closer to light source then projected background. How much of the splitup one will see is hard to show as one still but it is a good idea to make a video feature about this. I will try to make this video ASAP.

Thank You
Kaspar

I will take 2. In the DS Instgram post it says if you order two they will throw in a soft blade modifier and Pelicase. I would like it all. Thanks Travis, I can't wait!

For clarification:

I'm interested please in the 2 package deal. If we do three, is it essentially the same as a DS3 (all things considered) just need a power supply? Put me down for Gold Mount also. Thank you.

Correct. You just need a DS3 power supply and 30ft cables and you will have a DS3 setup.

Cheers

I'll take 3 units. Any way I can get the ds3 stuff, pelican and foam with the order?

I will take two in the kit and Gold mount plates. (Free Pelican + DS Softblade)
