For the past few months I have been working on a film called Greyscale. I am pleased to announce our first official trailer is now online and available for public viewing. http://www.vimeo.com/4918469

SYNOPSIS:
When his wife Julia is killed in an explosion at a mob warehouse, the world of artist Oliver Allen (Ryan Dunlap) literally turns gray.

Oliver, a painter who had hoped to trade a checkered past for a new life with Julia, suffers from Achromatopsia – the inability to see any color – a condition that plunges him into a world of black and white and shades of gray.

It’s the least of his problems.

The Mob is after him. Gavin Calhoun (Tim Russ of Star Trek: Voyager, Samantha Who?), is intent on two things: avenging the death of his son, who also died at the warehouse; and finding out what Oliver knows about a dead undercover cop who penetrated the Family – a cop who happened to be Julia’s father (Anthony Tyler Quinn of Boy Meets World, No Greater Love).

So Oliver abandons his witness-protection safe house in Denver, one step ahead of Calhoun’s murderous lieutenant, Jamison (Doug Jones of Hellboy 1 & 2, Pan's Labyrinth, and Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer), and seeks refuge in the college town of his idyllic university days with Julia. Amidst a swirl of flashbacks, he enlists the help of Blake, his eccentric college roommate, and Winston, a techno-geek with an arsenal of tricked out toys that go bang.

Into the mix comes Rachel Soren (Marisa Draeger), a stunning and mysterious woman who offers a strange deal: art for information. In return for a painting, she promises answers to Oliver’s shaded past, sending the tortured artist on a desperate quest to discover the reasons behind the spiral of violence.

Oliver descends into the netherworld, mining the back streets and alleys and last-chance churches for any detail about a mob database and the decryption key that might unlock it. Oliver's search catapults him into a web of betrayal – in which no one seems to be who they are, where loyalties are tested, and allegiances broken, giving him a last chance to make peace with the past and a new shot at a future.

GREYSCALE is a Neo-Noir Thriller in the tradition of Brick, Memento, Unknown, Lucky Number Slevin, and the 1950 classic D.O.A.

GREYSCALE was shot on an HVX200 with Cinevate's "Brevis" 35mm adapter.

I loved the trailer - gave me chills. I only have one recommendation - I think a dedicated website is a must - for stills, cast, trailer, screenings, etc.

Trailer looks interesting but your Synopsis is really disjointed and confusing.

And I kind of feel like I have to read/view both to get a good feel for what to expect.

Just having watched the trailer I would have assumed the wife was still alive and he was trying to rescue her.

A couple of more sleepy thoughts before going to bed:

I also don't get any impression of having a troubled past except for "I take it you're coming out of retirement" in the trailer.

It seems like the really interesting questions the film would raise are the morally gray actions of the main character. "What does being a good person mean? Can someone with his past be redeemed?" But the trailer doesn't really give any hints that he used to be in the Mob or work for the mob.

Nor do I really understand what it is Oliver is trying to accomlish from the Synopsis. If he isn't trying to rescue his wife is he just on a killing spree? What might be on the database? Is he on a killing spree or seeking justice? The synopsis seems to imply the movie starts with the death of his wife and Gavin (Is he the mob boss?) wants him dead. From there he goes on a revengeful killing spree.

As a viewer I feel like I need more information to judge just what it is I'm potentially viewing. What the setup is and what questions are raised.

Looks okay, you have some issues with sound in the dialogue.. Get the audio levels mastered or compressed or something.

Trailer is about a minute too long. Also not sure about the trailers build up.. It seems a bit anti climactic.. As a film marketer you need to tease the audience and seduce them into seeing your film. It doesn't really matter what your movie is. A trailer is a marketing tool and not a representation of your movie. Here's a chance to do it yourself without a studio committee. Your trailer seems to be less seductive and more informative. In the end, I don't really wanna see that film because of the trailer.
