  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Great filter solution for the Duclos 11-16...

I picked this up from my friends at Schneider Optics, it's a modification they do to the Lee filter holder system that allows it to securely hold two 4x4 or 4x5.65 4mm glass filters instead of the usual Lee 2mm. I tested it with the included 77mm WA attachment ring and it only vignettes ever so slightly in the very corners on 5K full frame and 2:1 and it's really only visible stopped down to 5.6 or beyond. Also just zooming slightly to about 11.75mm eliminates it completely. 5K 2.40 has no vignetting at all even at 11mm as I would imagine 1.85 and all the other resolutions wouldn't.

It really is quite an elegant and affordable way to use your existing 4x5 filters on the 11-16, you can even use grads in the verticle position but I'd probably paper-tape the filters just to be safe.

I think Schneider is selling these for around $150

Hey Evin, can you tell us if the vignetting is caused by the filter clamp or by the threaded adaptor? Maybe there's a way of clamping the holder to the barrel rather than via the filter thread.

Sweet :)

I modified one of those as well about a year ago. Although theirs is of course a little more elegant... I added longer 'bolts" and black sheet styrene shims between the stages, so i can load 3 standard 4"x5.65" in it.

I did mine so I could use it on my Sigma 50mm-500mm since it is a pain to use the matte box. I also use it a lot in run-n-gun on the red and on the "C" toy camera I have.

And... $150 is a good deal! JUst the filter holder is about 1/2 that price before mods!

Oh, I used the Cokin "Z" series filter holder. I saw this one uses a Lee holder.

It's the ring that vignettes, that lens is so wide on an Epic that it's nearly impossible to mount any filter or attachment ring without seeing it just slightly.
Again it's barely noticeable and if you zoom in just a pinch it's gone. Personally I'm not even going to worry about it, I even see my Slim Hoya polarizer when it's attached. Since I'm much more likely to shoot 2.40 or 1.85 it's not an issue for me.
