Great Dolly for the RED Camera

Hi

The price is about 12.000 DKR (about 2000 usd). The shipping from Denmark would be at cost. So thats 4,8 kg + the case. There is in the monent only a dealership in Denmark. So if anybody is interrested in the dealership in your country you make contact over the webpage http://www.lighterandbetter.com/

I was involved in the design of the dolly with a few others. And i am really happy about the result.

Cheers

Appears similar to Micro Dolly and Indie Dolly. Micro Dolly has been around for at least four years and has a wide range of products. And no, we don't sell them so I'm not fronting.

$2,000 wow

I've never been one to say something is over priced...God knows I certinaly charged fees based upon my knowledge and skills. But wow $2,000?

Interesting,

I don't see how it can go around curved track?

Then again I have a used Cinetech.it dolly (now $90,000-ish new) and I have no curved track. HA look at me - who's the idiot? ;) :pinch:

Actually, I get a $250/day rental. :)

Nice product,
Cheers,
Rich

This looks like it weighs a lot less than the IndieDolly, so that's a big plus... higher price though, and obviously can't support the accessories that the IndieDolly offers. Still, the light weight and simple design are appealing. I wonder if there's any way to get the cost down?

Hi

The webpage is not updated yet. But there is a short middel piece as well for narrow tracking. And there will be new accessories as more feedback comes from users.
This dolly have been around for 8 years but only in small numbers. For special orders. It may look simpel and it is simpel to use. But this is really a quality product. Where there is a reason for every detail . The wheels dont have the small "bumbs" that you can have between the tracks.
And if you break this dolly by normal use you will get a new one. It has not happen in 8 years. Right now there is about 70 dollys in Skandinavia. And the feedback is very positive.
Regarding the price i think it is very hard to make it a lot cheaper when you produce a product in small numbers.
But i still think the price is ok. Speciel after using it and getting feedback from the production companys..."Did you have dolly ??But there was no time for that"..Yes there was.

Anyway i just wanna share my joy in using this dolly. I am not the seller of it. But was involved in designing it. Together with a former Lego designer.
I am sure that a tryout can be arrange if you contact the sales in Denmark.

Take care and go film something.

Only issue I can see maybe is that none of the photos show the two rails joined together to keep them at the same distance apart?

Anyway, it certainly looks lightweight and usable for low budget productions that don't need fancy dolly moves etc.

Cheers for the info!

Looks a lot like the offering from Microdolly to me, which is great if you want the lightest, smallest dolly you can get because you are going to climb mountains and hike in by foot.

But if you want something you and your AC can ride, carry with one hand, throw in the trunk of a car, use with curved track (ours) and even drop down a flight of stairs with no damage (at least not to the dolly) might I suggest

With a set of straight and 90 degrees of curved track, its just over half the price, too.

Thanks Douglas,

I just saw it and for me LongValley Dolly is a winner with the price/performance value.

That the tracks are not joined is one of the tricks of the dolly. The wheels control the track. That makes it run on more uneven surfaces.

That could be a bit of a concern for me. When I make a move I want to know that my framing, marks, movement will all be precise and consistent. I have 4 dollies, one of them is the Hollywood Micro dolly and I love is for travel and small crew stuff. If this unit is anything like that it could be great, but track is a very important factor. Every dolly has its purpose and specific limitation, but personally, I'm not a fan of plastic tubes, pipes and hoses. I like professional gear that I can count on and that give me the results I'm after.

I have the same idea. I need gear that i can count on. This is the stuff. I emaile the guys yesterday about a discount for a for RED users. Group buys. If there is 10 pc it would be 1780 usd or 1699 by 20 pc. I have 3 dollyes with me in Mexico right now. I finish using them on the 15 marts. I could leave one in the states with one from the crew if somebody wants to try is out. I will just get a new one when i get to Denmark. Any idea how to do this is welcome.

Cheers

"scater" wheels?

Douglas - Is the Long Valley dolly as smooth as microdolly? I tried both Microdolly and IndieDolly at NAB'08 and liked microdolly the best of the two...

Never tried the Microdolly. Their stuff looks great, like you would take it on the space shuttle or up Everest - very light, extremely portable, not inexpensive.

But I don't have any plans for mountain climbing or low earth orbit, so I made my dolly so that the op and AC could both ride it (deck is same size as standard Doorway Dolly) which is a nice option to have for most work. I mean, it's not always the best to push a dolly and pan and tilt and pull focus all at the same time. It can be done, and you can do it with our dolly, but most of the time I like to ride.

Our dolly has 16 wheels on four trucks that swivel, and slide, from side to side, on teflon coated UHMW plates. Very smooth, and the swivel and slide action allows it to run on our curved track as well as standard Matthews track, steel pipe, angle iron, etc. I rarely use it on anything but our PVC with the track connectors that lock the ends together from the inside, so there are no bumps where the ends join.

Doug's dolly is as simple and clean a design as one could ever ask. Yet he has enough wheels on the trucks to remove any bumps and grinds. It has certainly proven the test of time with tons of imitators over the years. It is a concept that shows both his & my age that we can remember when it started, but it works and really can't be improved upon for what it is. Simple, cheap, effective. Done.
