  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Grateful...

Thanks Jim. I participate on a lot of different filmmaking and photography forums ... but none as lively, helpful or groundbreaking as this one. And certainly none where the incredibly busy owner of an exploding company takes so much time to share and interact with his customers on such a regular basis.

You mentioned Sony, Panasonic, Arri and Canon. I believe there are three reasons why you're in the process of passing all the others in terms of technology:

1. Your big vision and unwavering commitment to that vision

2. Your unparalleled care/connection/communication with customers ... and ...

3. Surrounding yourself with amazing, talented people who feel just as passionately about #1 and #2 as you do.

Thanks to you (and everyone here) for making Red THE camera to own/use ... and this board THE place to be, if you want to learn, share and grow as a filmmaker.

Anthony

Thankyou for being so gracious Jim.

Can I also mention that you (and the whole Red team) have made my career! I took a big (though calculated) gamble whilst in film school and put down deposits on three Red One camera packages, based on having worked with both film and video and having not been happy with either of them for what I wanted from a camera.

That gamble paid off big time and helped launch me, my company and Red in Japan! Having ridden the ride from the beginning (with Red #378) I'm hugely excited that I am now on the cusp of taking my career to the next level with my next short (shooting with S3D Epic) as well as pioneering Epic in Japan as well, this time from a position where everyone knows who I am (as opposed to fighting to get known the first time around).

Thank YOU for all of that!

Thanks also to everyone on the forum who I have learned from these past four years! Talk about a second film school education! This forum has been it and then some! Cheers ALL!!

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul :)

I was shopping for an HD camera upgrade and not finding much to be real enthused about that I could possibly afford when the original Scarlet was announced. Decided then to wait for it.
The ride has been incredibly educational, often entertaining, occasionally frustrating, but worth every minute.
Thanks to you Mr. Jannard for your vision and persistence, for sharing it all so openly with all of us, and to Red Team for what has to be a Herculean effort to realize that vision. Most of all thank you for creating an affordable camera system that an old 16mm fan like me can truly get excited about owning.

Thank you, Jim. Its been enormously rewarding for me to watch you and the team build my dream camera. Getting to peek inside the process and add my 2 cents has helped me deal with the stress of "When!!???".

I was talking the other day with someone about my giving you my money so early (before the camera was delivered) and they thought I was crazy. I started laughing.

Betting on you has been a no-brainer, and I have not had a millisecond of doubt that you would deliver. Ever.

With only my interactions with you on RedUser to go on, I've learned much about what it takes to build market-defying, wildly successful products... (You should have charged me tuition to be part of this community. - You probably already regret this.)

While some of these are obvious, all of them are essential. The Epic is possible because of certain personal qualities you harness as the Leader, which I've identified as:

1. You take the long view. Short term good news is no indicator of long term success in your eyes.

2. You push your expectations past what most people are comfortable with. Past what most experts tell you is possible.

3. You personalize the goal. You can't get behind something that you, yourself don't want. You must be the first customer and it must be beyond your reach.

4. You are not driven by economic reward, you get a palpable, physical and emotional thrill from doing the impossible. You are an "adrenaline junkie" of sorts. You probably would have been a fantastic extreme athlete in another life.

5. You sketch out the vision and you delegate the details, but you know enough about every aspect to keep up the pace and break through the log jams.

6. You will never let the limits of technology define what the customer will get. The customer (You) always defines what's possible.

7. You assemble a team of people that are exceptionally talented at what they do and you let them do it. Your team is populated with others like you. You seek out people who don't want a paycheck- they want to change things.

8. You have no idea what "regular business hours" means.

9. You can see the future. Sometimes months ahead, sometimes decades.

10. You hate lists like these and you are suspicious of compliments. In your mind, there is nothing exceptional about your role in the organization. Its just who you are.

11. Watching the competition ignore opportunities angers you. Deeply. Personally. You long for a true peer. There are few of them in the world.

12. You can't live at the office (Even though you try sometimes). You must have downtime, vacations, this is critical to gaining perspective.

Maybe you'll write a book about these traits, call it The Jannard Factor or something. Give those of us who will be inventing and designing in years to come, some perspective on what it takes to do what you do. I don't trust the conclusions of others, so I'm not interested in somebody else's book or idea of who you are and what you do.

I believe that successful leadership can be examined, de-constructed and while not always taught, certain aspects can be nurtured. Now that you've given us the greatest camera on earth, what's next for you?

When i first started reading REDuser, I was just curious about the RED ONE and never expected to find such a great community of people here. This was further reinforced by the RED Day I flew across the country to attend. All the people I met were passionate and supportive. It is truly amazing to witness the development of such an advanced system, and relish the day I get to purchase a Scarlet, and play with an Epic.

Keep up the amazing work, I know everyone will be blow away if they aren't already!

I love the fact that no matter what crap anyone post members comments are always constructive... hard thing to find in a forum these day. Keep up the great work guys, cant wait to hold the final product in my hand, better yet have it sitting on my shoulder...

I don't often say it... but we are so grateful for everyone's participation here on Reduser. Our program is better for it. Plus, it is way more fun to have a community that we can interact with on a daily basis to keep us pointed in the right direction.

We have learned a lot from all of you. Our program has evolved because of you. Your suggestions have influenced what we do.

Jim
Thanks for listening. Not being one myself, but I have observed brilliance along with just common sense practicality among the members of the forum. So many have pitched in with ideas... some good, some not so good. But enough input for you to maybe "aka" the Epic as the VolksKamera?

And thanks also for building in things that few if any of us ever imagined. By your own admission the Epic X is not the ne plus ultra RED camera, but just another in an apparently long line of penultimate ones.

Not sure I'll stay on that conveyor belt when "next" arrives. Probably will 'cause I have a hunger for more k's.

It must feel pretty satisfying to be Jim Jannard about now.

This is an extremely difficult program. We appreciate everyone's patience. We are late because we had no idea what we were doing and how difficult all this actually would be. Trust me when I tell you that we have built a small army to solve all the problems in an effort to deliver a camera that exceeded anyone's expectations. We want to make you happy.

We are not Sony, Arri, Panasonic or Canon. We are a small group of people dedicated to delivering what the others could not. No easy task. Everyone here is working on fumes. The amount of effort is hard to measure. All of it is an effort to make a big difference.

Without a customer base... none of this is possible. This is the moment where we thank you all for your support.

Jim
Amazing words and we will stand behind you! Your doing a great job.
See you at NAB

Thank you Jim and RED Team for all you have done to move your vision forward. We are all the beneficiaries of your drive to succeed! RED has set the bar (and set it high) for our industry.

Almost any aspect of my life during the last years are in some way "Red" branded.
Up and down, pro and personal.

Thanks Jim. Thanks Jarred.

I can't remember all names, from Ace to Zakaree. Just let me say thanks to all of you guys.

Corrado.. your a legend. Thank you for all the support you have given us along the way.. including the creative input you have sprinkled here from time to time :)

This forum, and RED, changed my life. In such a good way.

Can't put it in a bigger way than to let Jim, Jarred and the whole damn team know they have actually changed my life. And I know it's not just me, but literally thousands of lives. And a whole f'n industry. What a ride it's been, and the best is yet to come.

Also, this forum is the only place on the internet where I have 'met' people (without even meeting them) that I actually consider friends (with no quotation marks - cuz they really are friends to me). And that includes Facebook, Twitter, or any of the other multitude of Social Networking sites. To me, THIS is the only one that has had an impact on MY life.

Thanks for your passion RED folks. It's been infectious.

Because of RED, my I have found my "calling" according to Jim and Jarred. And I think they are right.

This company has given me far more than I have paid into it. They have supported me in ways no one else would have. Professionally, personally, and materially.

Not only do I thank them, but so does my family. Without RED we would not have benefited as we have.

Sincerely,

Jay

Hey Jarred, can I print a huge poster with this sentence? :-)

Hi Everyone, I've been reading REDUSER for a year or two now but this is my first ever post. There's not a whole lot I could add that hasn't already been said by several already, but just want to say how much I've enjoyed reading everyones posts and how informative they have been. Additionally, the dedication and commitment of Jim, Jarred, and the RED TEAM not only to their products but to their customers, which comes through in this forum, I feel is unprecedented in just about any industry. Sometimes I wish the team would get a little more sleep just so I'd stop staying up reading their late night posts! As a PhD graduate student in the sciences and still photographer on the side, I'm a noob in every sense of the word when it comes to video and it is gonna be a WHILE before I can afford to buy RED, but I have started my Scarlet fund and can't wait to become an actual REDUSER. To Jim, the RED TEAM, and the REDUSER community, thanks again,
Todd
