Graphics Display Problem with New Mac Pro & Premiere

I've seen this on a Hacintosh (before the new Mac Pros even came out). It is a definite pain.

This is a pain if this is a hardware issue. I called Apple today and reported the two problems I'm having. The horizontal lines on my playback monitor as initially mentioned, and the display static Im getting on my main monitor after the computer boots up or after coming back on from sleep. It is intermittent as well.

This lady at Apple says there are no known issues with the D700's in regard to what I'm reporting. She had me reset the PRAM and and the Mac Pro booted up at the display looked fine (that time). But its very intermittent, so she gave me another contact if I continue to have problems. I still think this is a Mac Pro issue. I've had these monitors for years and these are brand new issues showing up since the day I turned on the new mac pro.

It's possible the display static could be the USB-powered Dual link DVI to MDP adapter I have. But if others are having the same problems with the horizontal lines -- that'd indicative of a hardware issue.

Static/ sparkles are always a factor with the MDP to DVI-DL converters. Will often show at start-up or on certain mode changes as proper sync rates are negotiated. Doesn't happen with all monitors, happens a lot with some. The horizontal lines could also be a related issue, but given the other reports, I'd say it's a GPU hardware fault.

Yeah I got the static again when I booted up things up thismorning. Are there any other MDP to DL adapters that are known to actually work well?

The one from Apple is the best one. How old is yours? And which monitor are you using? They had a lot of issues with them prior to firmware v1.3, but I don't know if it reports firmware on the adapter and I'd probably have to reference by date. It could still be an issue with the monitor and the adapter. Using the adapter, I get occasional sparkles on 30" HP monitor, but not on my 30" Dell monitors. My new Mac Pro runs an optical TB cable to my primary desk where it connects to a Sonnet TB expander that has a USB3 card and an ATTO H680 for eSATA/SAS So I connect most of my external storage here, use an older LTO tape drive and my redmag readers. Chained off of the Sonnet box is the Apple DP to DVI-DL adapter running a 30" Dell 2560x1600 display. On the credenza desk behind me I have the 24" Dell 4K connected to the new MP that's sitting there and the Pegasus2 RAID next to it. Everything working as it should <knock wood>.

I actually wanted to put the Sonnet box elsewhere, but I can't get any of the long Displayport cables to work in this situation, so the Sonnet box became the solution to use the monitor on the desk since I can't just run the optical TB cable from the computer straight to a monitor or the adapter. Hoping to get the Sonnet and other equipment off my desk and put a 4K+ Thunderbolt display there instead of this old Dell 30"
