Graphics Card

[Justin Kirchhoff]

Alright fellas, my Mac Pro is screaming for a new graphics card. I have the ATI 1900XT and it needs to be newified. Any suggestions.

We're using the Nvidia 8800GTs in all our machines. If you're not looking to do any/much 3D VFX work then they're definitely the best bang for the buck at the moment. They'll certainly smoke those old 1900XTs!!

If you're heavy on 3D rendering, then it might be worth looking the QuadroFX boards, but they ain't cheap...

thanks dominic. have you heard anything about the HD cards...like the 3460 or whatever it is?

ATI's Radeon HD 3870 for around $200 would be my recommendation. The nVidia cards are terrific but on the Mac side the drivers have been poorly written, hence my preference for the ATI cards. IF anyone knows of any recent tests with the newest cards and drivers on the Mac side please share...

Thanks guys...$200 isn't bad at all! I'll take a look at it.

The X1900XT is a great card, what problems are you having with it?

[Justin Kirchhoff]

AE CS4 can't view the full 4K R3D files at full rez, only half. I assumed it was because of the graphics card, other people were having trouble with this too and the had older video cards.
