I'm currently running a single GXT 680 card in my hackintosh. I was wondering if adding another GTX680 would improve performace noticeably.

Also, with two GTX cards, what's the best way to go about running a Red Rocket card as well? Do I need two GTX680's if I have a Rocket? Can I run the rocket in a thunderbolt enclosure?

Any info on working setups would be helpful.

If you are using Resolve LT, then No, you can only use one GPU anyway. If you are using a full version of Resolve, then No, one GPU will process and the other will run the GUI (uses 5-10% of the card). Yes the red rocket can run at full speed in a TB enclosure.

You can add a GTX 780 or Titan and have the 680 run the GUI, though simply upgrading to a single 780 might be easier.

So I would see better performance, then, by upgrading to a better single GPU? If Resolve is only using 5-10% of the GUI card, would running two GTX 680's in SLI configuration be better or worse than a single, higher performance card?

What's the best GPU to support a Red Rocket and/or for processing non-Red (primarily Alexa) footage?

Sorry for asking so many questions.

Shiblom's info was correct, but is now out of date. The latest release(s) of Resolve 9, as well as Resolve 10 now that it's out, will run GUI and computation off the same GPU. Resolve Lite is still locked to a single GPU, as far as I'm aware. GTX680 is a fine GPU. Adding a second one will effectively double your computational power for FX nodes, but how much speed-up you see will depend on your typical projects and how you make use of various nodes and whatnot. Adding a Rocket card only accelerates the decoding of R3D files and it is a big help for R3D workflows. Rocket runs fine in a Thunderbolt enclosure. R3D acceleration via GPU is coming to apps like resolve, but there is no time frame for that just yet.

a GTX 780 or Titan is more powerful than the 680, but I would not recommend either at the moment for use in OSX as the driver support isn't as mature as for the 680.
