I am very curious about the RGB codec. Can you tell us a bit more. I promise I won't tell...

- Is it I-frame only?
- What's the datarate of 1080p?
- Will it be available as VFW to all programs on a windows platform?
- Can we choose different compression ratio's when compressing to Redcode RGB (in software)?
- Can we use this codec to create the files for Red Ray?

Don't worry, the competition is not reading this :shifty:

"2 hours of 4K on a DVD9" keep ringing in my subconscious. It was a marketed spec for the REDRAY.

Now, I know that you can stuff 2 hrs of 1080p pretty well in a DVD9. :sarcasm:

But 2 hrs of FOUR KAY?!...

I want to know more. :w00t:

It's probably connected to that wavelet voodoo thing. I don't know if the REDRAY codec is the same as this one but they're probably related. :)

Syndrum,

Appreciation is the basic necessity of any human, and employees of a high-tech company, or say any company, are certainly no exception to it. Appreciation can come in from inside (say your manager, colleagues, peers, etc) or from outside, say customers' comments. I don't think that Red has made it a public knowledge that who exactly are the people who are developing Red's compression engine, or at least I am not aware of it. Therefore, tying Red's compression to individuals with names, is disheartening to others who also contributed.

Exactly my thoughts.

Compression is a really good thing when it comes to delivery formats (and archiving in some cases). 2 hrs of 4K on dvd9 is beyound words.

Huh? Isn't Graeme the one in charge of the codec developement? It's obvious to me (and I thought to anyone) that they work as a team.

Read between the lines: Joofa is fishing for a compliment. Graeme has been subcontracting Joofa for years. The "Nattress" filters are actually Joofa's programming work with Graeme's name stamped on them. Joofa also developed REDCODE, though the source code has to be exported from Germany to Canada before it can go into the US (due to weapons export restrictions -- Joofa's code is dangerous!).

[P.S. This was a joke, for the humor impaired. :)]

Hahaha. :)

Well, I don't know myself, but in any way - compliments to all that work on RED's compression engine. :)

Where can we get this ninja codec? :shiftyph34r:

:usd: ...Wow...

Anyway, I understand that they can't reveal this to much. So good luck (to the ENTIRE team :sarcasm: ) with the codec developing. I guess time will tell...
