  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Grading HDRx

Anyone have an idea if in program Tone Mapping 'n such are on the road map for CineX HDRx? Heck, even my iPhone has HDR now

Fuel is an upcoming HRDx processing algorithm / feature coming from RED that shows a lot of promise. The samples images are impressive, at least what little has been shown on the FXPHD EPIC courses.

Nope, here is the question:
"I too have been wondering what I've been missing while trying to grade HDRX in redcine. It feels like what I need is some kind of "crossover" control (like you have in an audio system to separate out the different frequencies) telling the program at which luma point to start taking the x- track instead of the a- track. But I'm sure that's far easier said than done!"
If you want to continue to waste your time, trying to use Easy HDRx in RedCine-X, I can't stop you. Or you can just use a free COLOR GRADING software, specifically designed to do what you and other posters are asking for, then use Resolve and move on with your life.

Would be cool to have Photomatix/Topaz like controls within CineX . . .

Sorry, I missed something. What were you suggesting for hdrx in dailies? Just looking for a simple tool that can get the Hdrx highlights back in a dailies workflow. I think resolve is out due to no audio.

ha, perhaps my use of the word GRADE was a little ill-advised! It's more of a dailies thing.

Thanks for the tip on resolve lite, I will be checking it out the second they make the windows version available.

Still I don't think it would hurt to have slightly fuller HDRx features in redcinex, Jim has quite often pointed to his own workflow of getting footage most of the way there in RCX before final output.

May I add my experience with HDRx..

I kind of felt like I might suggest having the HDRx "on" for dailies for the audio sync reason. I had a project the other day to grade after conforming from an XML
that was edited with transcoded Prores files. Once I started using the HDRx, the frames would go out of sync off my offline reference. Every frame would have
half a frame difference from the offline edit, and that wasn't possible to sync back after grading, of course. The final piece wasn't off by too much due to the style
of the project, but you know what clients tend to say.. "why is it different from the edit?"

Cheers,
