Hey Guys,

We all love these "Grade My r3d" threads, so thought I'd add to it.

This one is a bit more interesting as we shot on an EPIC in black and white (tried getting our hands on a monochrome, but it was not available). Curious to see just how much can be done to a black and white image, besides the usual contrast + grain.

This is for a bodybuilding supplement company (Animal) and we went for an early morning feel in some of the shots.

Send over some inspirations ;)

Just lightening it up...

Looks like early morning to me.

You know I'll be honest, I personally would much rather have some color in the shots, and some of these examples you guys posted just reiterates that.

But the "image" this brand has is all black and white, gritty, contrasty feel.

Perhaps pa ill show them some of these samples and convinces them for something more colored ;)

One thing I tried doing, without much success, is playing with the contrast to have the bodybuilders face hidden in the darkness. In some shots the lighting helps in creating that effect, but in others not so much.

Regardless you guys definetly did bring some variation to it!

Les I like your take with brighten it up. I might add some grain to dirty the image up.

Derek, good as always ;)

Rami, I like where you're going with it.

No worries Savva. I guess if the client already knows they want a grainy, contrasty black and white look you should probably just give it to them, and maybe save some colour variations for your own personal reference (the shots do look good in colour from what I could tell).

If you can post a link to the final version when it's done, would be interesting to see how it works out.

Sure thing man. Should have the final edit by 7/1.

And I will most likely be revisiting the "grade" of the spot once we get close to it.
