  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GPU acceleration not working

I downloaded some test HELIUM R3Ds to test my export times, and it doesn't seem to be taking advantage of my GPU (GTX 1070) for anything.

- Timeline editing in new Premiere
- Rendering to DNxHR & ProRes in new Media Encoder
- Exporting to DNxHR & ProRes in REDCINE X

I'm looking at my GPU usage in GPU-Z and my GPU load hovers at 0% or 1% while my CPU is being maxed out.

I've confirmed that my GPU acceleration works in Media Encoder for other (H.264) footage, but I can't seem to get it to work for my R3Ds.

Any thoughts?

This is on Windows 10.

Well, i completely misread then. I thought this was the FCX section, apologies.

If I'm correct, when encoding R3Ds the load is placed on your CPU and when you're playing back, the load is placed on your GPU even with acceleration. The R3Ds require large computational power from your CPU. That's why fewer more powerful cores and a great GPU are used for editing/playback, and render machines use multi-core machines to transcode. This is all my understanding so if I'm incorrect, someone please jump in.

And even stranger--when I disable GPU acceleration in Redcine X, it actually plays back smoother and I see my GPU usage go up to 10%, instead of the 1%-2% it hovers on when I enable CUDA...

Whaaaaaat. I got nothing for you then Michael, hopefully someone like Jeff Kilgore can jump on and help troubleshoot.

Do you have ADD checked ON for export?

If so this will slow your render to a crawl, and I don't think ADD is supported by GPU.

Also since it sounds like your computer is not utilizing the GPU in other programs (besides RedCine) Do you have the CUDA driver installed?
