GPS frame tagging?

I was amazed to find a search for "GPS" turned up nothing on reduser - this idea is by no means unique but it would be great to get GPS coordinates into the metadata of footage...

I thought of the same.
Like with bluetooth USB dongles and mice (Human Interface Devices - HID) I wondered if there will come anything like a general driver. Plug in USB GPS dongle (with chipset xyz) and the GPS data might be burnt in into the metadata.

The important thing about it should be that theres at least a little of control. Otherwise every programmer makes his own style of doing so. Instead, the GPS data for example should always be in the same fields of metadata to ensure useability.

Curious if RED will have the capacities to do so and if so, when RED might release an API for versed individuals to program some other useful applications like GPS tracking or like in James THREAD.
