  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi All,

I would like to make my own GPIO run/stop button through the 4 PIN Lemo at the back of the camera.
Anyone knows how to make that?
I have this, but what else do I need?

Thanks! Julien

the lemo is probably the most expensive part - if you're just testing things out, you can carefully just stick the bare ends of wires into the port and then when you touch the other ends of the wires together (like hot wiring a car) it will trigger the GPI function. Then its just a matter of finding a switch you like at a hardware store.

If you do that and short across the 12v power, you'll blow an internal fuse and may have to send the camera back to RED for repair.

Buy a 4-pin LEM connector. It should be less than $25...

There is a short circuit protection circuit, but for $25 ....

There are also some companies already offering pre-assembled start / stop switches that use LEMO connectors and various lengths of cables .. around $130.

Dear Stuart,

I've just made my GPIO remote with two LED and one switch.
Before pluging it into the red, I would like to be sure of two things:
- This view is from outside the camera (like if i took a picture of the back of the camera). I want to make sure that PIN 1 for you is PIN1 for me!

SAME VIEW AS THIS PICTURE, right?

- The reference of the LEMO 4 is :
LEMO FGG.0B.304.CLAD42Z
I found a lemo4 without the Z reference at the end. It seems we don't care about the Z, but can you give me your comment.

This is what i read on the web site of LEMO:
"Variant Z: Nut for fitting a bend relief"

Thank you very much.

Yes, that is correct.

No, you don't have to use the Z variant, but it allows you to use a silicon sleeve if you want an environmental seal between the connector and the cable.
