Hey guys, new BT R1 MX owner here. I was one of the lost souls waiting for the BMCC on the pre-order list, but I had to break off after absolutely no communication from the company about the delays. I still pop in over there, and it's depressing. At the beginning of November, I wandered over here and I have to tell you, part of the reason I am now part of the Red community is the seeming level of support and attention from the company and community. So, I called up Abel Cine Tech and told them I was going Red.
I worked in NYC and Hollywood on professional and union gigs directing and editing, but my preferred path took me to making my films independently. Over the last 10 years I have owned an Aaton S16mm rig, a Canon XL1, SD900, HVX200, Canon 5Dmk2 and a GH2. The advances have made it possible for me to keep doing what I want to do, and now I feel kind of like I'm back into conventional filmmaking with the R1 rig. But, the costs are up again to shoot and I'm glad I still have all my support equipment from my Aaton days.
Thanks to my friend from NYU days, Doug Underdahl I'm able to start this journey with a functioning, albeit skimpy setup. But I'm excited as hell knowing that this camera, like my Aaton at the time, was a camera I could use for years to come; less time on forums looking for the next big thing, more time doing the work.
My path has also taken me to Asia, first Korea and now China, where I am a bit worried about support. I was wondering if there was anyone who can tell me about the certified support centers here in case my camera has problems. I have a feeling since I bought on 11/9, my camera is going to have heavy hours on it and it's expensive to ship back to the States.
