The IDX Cam-Wave CW-5HD works fantastic on RED.

Does it work with Red Batteries and if so, does it transmit battery info?

Also, any word on the upcoming BOXX wireless HD Units? I'd just like to know a relative price range. If BOXX offers a similar system for even $4000-5000 I'd consider it over the IDX.

Who has good pricing on IDX Cam-Wave?

Hi Avenger,

For pricing information, check out this thread from the steadicam forum. The Boxx unit is probably going to run you 10K (USD), as opposed to the 6K(USD) for the Camwave...

I've seen the Camwave in action with the Red and a JVC DTV L1DU 24" HD LCD monitor. The image looked very impressive....

10K is a no go. I didn't have much of a problem with $6k but wanted to make sure. Is there anything with simpler features that sits around the $3k to $4k price range?

Also, does Cam-Wave have component and HDSDI (simultaneous) options.

Sorry I wasn't clear on the post. I was referring to SD type of systems with similar features that run a couple thousand less (and if they even exist). I personally think the Cam-Wave is a major deal from what I've heard.

The Cam-wave works excellently, but RED cautioned me it has the same warranty implications as non-red batteries, even with redbricks providing the power. Therefore, I have gerry-rigged a support system that allows the cam-wave to be mounted in pretty much any position off the rods, powered by anton-bauer p-tap, that way you still receive your battery info on camera and don't have to worry about warranty issues.

So its a dummy V-Mount with power coming off a D-Tap? Is it best to mount the Cam-Wave with the V-Mount?

The V-Mount is the main mounting mechanism.

I agree, this is a good unit. The range could be a little better. I was in wide open exterior on steadicam and it maxed out at about 200-250 ft. Also, in my testing, I have discovered that it only works flawlessly in 23.98 or 29.97 Framerate setting. I am shooting internationally and they do a lot of 25 Framerate settings, so this is unfortunate. Basically the problem it runs into is an upwards scrolling image on your monitor. The signal is clear, but constantly scrolling.

If someone knows of this problem and has a solution, please let me know.

We work with our Wevi for the last two months, the quality was incredible, so robust and very light.
We can´t find another product like this in the market at this price.
Tanner this is new for me, I´m gonna test Wevi with 25Fps right now.

Anyway I love Wevi, freedom for camera, freedom for director.

We have only a problem of geometry: the Sdi Input of our Marshall monitor is so near the V-mount, the cable strikes the Wevi, so the dream of a one-piece monitor receiver it´s on the way but not for now for us.

Hi tanner stauss,

Scrolling picture might just simply have to do with signal strenght. If you have your unit set to max and you are too close the picture scolls. When experiencing this problem try a diffrent channel first - 4 is max - 1 is min - and if thawt doesn't solve it try the high / low switch below.

After having fiddled with Modulus in SD until the better Canatrans came out I am more than happy to get a HD version with the CAMWAVE for basically same price in a very good quality. For extreme shots daisy chain them or extend the receiver with cable and have a guy following the steadycam/ remote head. Works perfectly.

Don't know about multi cam set-ups? Any experience out there?
All the best

We have developed the dummy v-mount support to power the WEVI from the p-tap, and are ready to have them manufactured. It works quite well, and can be mounted either from the rods or from the rosette on the arri baseplate, which is great for lightweight or handheld modes. It also takes stress off the cradle of holding up the drive, transmitter, and battery all at once. Mounting on the dumb side of the camera also helps offset the weight of the EVF for handheld.

Pricing will be available soon.

I spoke to them and they said that if a power problem happened while using a 3rd party battery or system that is a sandwich between battery and battery plate, and they could not say that the 3rd party accessory was not the problem, it would not be covered under warranty. After an owner had one camer have a power board failure for a separate reason, he decided not to take a risk on the WEVI for powering the camera.

That's why we built the rod/rosette mount dummy v-lock for mounting and powering off p-tap, to preserve warranty and also get battery info.
