  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Good place to buy Kinos?

I'm headed to NAB to get some Kino 4banks and Dedos (hopefully w/ NAB specials). If you don't need them soon, I'll let you know what I find out.

Jim, I seem to remember Steve Tammi getting good prices from BJ at Custom Supply that were better than some of our usual sources. I am about to do the same.

I hope this helps.

Andrew

Jing, I would love to hear what the specials are on both Dedos and Kino Gaffer kit. I really like the Dedo 650s, 150s and their "run and gun' octo-soft light/small kit.

Any word that you can pass along would be great.

Thanks Jing,

Andrew

Have fun at NAB

hey Jing,
that would be fantastic. I'm not going to order until June so any info you gather would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Jim

Custom usually has the best prices and the slowest delivery.

They dont stock anything so they can offer a lower cost, you just have to wait for it. sometimes as much as 2 weeks but you could save considerably

I just looked for coollights and there website is down. He did have some great prices though.

Thanks Andrew, will definitely give Steve a call.

Glad to help out and share.

I'm also planning to look around here in LA since we have a lot of vendors (who will end up at NAB anyway). I'm considering a small lighting package of 4 Dedo 150s, 1 Dedo 650, and 2 Kino 4banks. (I'll supplement with china balls and pars; but they're relatively cheap to get). I've heard that Kinos are on the expensive side (and so are the dedos!), but someone is still going to have to prove to me that the alternatives are equivalent or better in quality. Someone told me peppers do the same as dedos (NOT!). To me, dedos are the mercedes of lights (okay, maybe an overstatement), but I love the absolute precise control and light output. I've never tried the 650, but I know I'll want something with more output but still controllable. I also need CONTROLLABLE soft light. I'm open to hearing about the alternatives (of course I would love to spend less, get more, and have great quality. Who wouldn't?)
Bagger (sp?) lights also sound interesting. But for me, it's all about the controllability (and I don't need a generator).

Thanks Andrew, will definitely give Steve a call.

Cheers,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Sorry for not being clear... Steve Tammi is a red user (and a Ninja--how do I know? Never seen him, I only hear about him :) Steve is a very nice guy just pulling his leg)

The gentleman that you want to contact is BJ at Custom Supply--The Media Supply Store, The number is 1(800) 451-1425. Jim, I felt very fortunate to have close to a dozen red users pm to strongly suggest I go this route. The list was a solid group of people I like and admire.

Take care Jim

Jing thanks for your input, I have come to pretty much the same conclusions as yourself. I need a good kit then if I need more I will hire a three ton. I would be grateful to hear who you come across that will offers good prices on dedos... I will never do business with BH Photo again.

Thank you Jing,

Andrew

Ah, Thanks Andrew,

No, you were clear, I just type too fast! Definitely BJ as it clearly stated in your first post! I'll slow down now... :calm:

Jim

I bought 2 kino divas 400's for 750 apiece then bulbs and but them in a pelican
1650 total cost: 1844 w/ shipping under 2k. the full boat from kino is expensive

Hey Phaz, where did you get them? Sounds like good pricing.

Jim

Okay, so here's the scoop. No NAB specials on Kino 4 banks. There's one dealer from Florida at the Dedo booth and he's only offering 15% off list price. Maybe I'll find out more about other dealers. FYI.
