I´m reading this forum carefully, love the transparency of the camera development which is given trough it by Jim and his team from the first moment. A lot of people helped to make the Red One and software better and better by posting their experiences . I hope this always will go on. Thank you all!
But what I´m missing: A thread section where the user which already have the chance to work with the cam post their experiences: "What works well!".
There is a good thread about 9 1/2 stops, okay, but where is a thread which tells about successful real work within the limitations of the cam? In a way like: "...I had good experience with LED light, HMI, Tungsten, Kinoflo...the sensor reacts good with this and this Lowcon filter under this and this circumstances...". Whatever.
There are threads like this, mainly posts, but hard to find. It would help a lot to share this experiences more precise.
IMO the perfect cam will never be build, we all have to work within the limitations of the tool we work with. We always worked like this anyway.

Totally agree. Count me in.

Here seems like a good enough place to start.

I just finished a film called Hybrid shooting in Regina, doing data management and quality control, with DP John Leonetti.

John loves the Red. He said he's never lit a set so dark in his career. I had to find my way around with a flashlight on several occasions. He lit a walk-and-talk with just a handheld PAR can bounced off the grey concrete floor. Some scenes were just emergency lights and flashlights. He loves how smooth and noiseless the dark frames look.

We moved from Build 13 to 15 in the middle of the show, and the jump in image fidelity from Redcode28 to Redcode36 was astounding. Just in terms of blue channel noise the improvement was almost unbelievable. The camera boys were all old-school and it blew their mind to see the entire operation of the camera enhanced with a simple firmware install.

When the pictures of Epic from NAB started making the rounds on set, all anybody talked about was the 3/8" cheese plate on top of the body. The only grumblings anyone really made about the One were in regards to the mountain of gak velcro'd to every surface on the camera, from downconverters to transmitters to clockits etc. Dean the A camera 1st was fielding calls from Toronto PM's left and right and telling them the same thing: *&%$ the Genesis, shoot Red.

Great section idea, I'm in too. I wish to post articles on our website for french redusers for work and tips purpose. Pitch in, I take it! We all need experience from others.

PS: nice avatar Spoutnik! That's what I'd have made if I didn't move... ;)
