  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GOOD LUCK NEW YORK.... News images

Things were fine Uptown, although the wind shook our building like crazy - me and my wife live on the 23rd floor. The building really sounded and moved like a very old, wooden boat out in the ocean! Frightening at times.

--

we're in a low building. But the deep roar that came from the whole city when the wind was up, was freaky.

Here are some new pics. Really sad.

Went out to take photos Monday and Tuesday... it was surreal to see people sitting down to brunch in Brooklyn while fires still burned in Queens and Manhattan lay dark.

The storm affected people very differently... Plum Island off the coast of Montauk is ok, while friends of family in Hoboken lost their homes. Food became difficult to find in lower Manhattan but people are filling up the restaurants in Brooklyn... that is the surreal part to me.

PS Nice going John and the Flug crew, that is ten kinds of awesome. Other rental houses are allowing people to hold onto their gear, but opening up your showers is above and beyond.

Ryan, couldn't agree with you more. I live in Park Slope (For those of you who dont know, it's an elegant, historic neighborhood perched atop a hill - ie, all the water rushes downhill, the old sturdy buildings hold firm, and besides some fallen trees, we survived unscathed).

What has been surreal is seing my neighborhood spring to life like it's a bank holiday. The cafes and bars are packed. Couples crowd the streets, holding hands, gawking at the fallen branches. There is an air of frolic. With the subways still out of commission, we are like a fashionable oasis with nothing better todo than eat, go out, and be merry. Which sits uncomfortably, as I have many friends and clients that are in pretty bad shape. No power, no water, and an air of chaos rides over many of them. For the worst off, homes have been lost.

This disaster has certainly affected the city in discordant, hard to reconcile ways.

I personally have never seen this city come to a stand-still like this. Even after 9-11, the subways were up and running ASAP. This is different, this is new. As Governor Cuomo says, we're going to have to get used to this as the NEW REALITY. These storms are here to stay. We better start figuring out to how to deal with them NOW. Anything less would be irresponsible and naive.

Ketch...this is a known "fake photo" --- it was "out of" photoshop....

Yes I know that now after Peter posted about it.

Ketch, thats one of the most viral FAKE/PHOTOSHOPPED pictures traversing the nets ATM.

its the storm from independence day...

Ha ha, I did said it was an amazing dramatic shot, per ups too dramatic... :(

But since I sow similar dark cloud formations in one of Mark's posted pics I tough it could have been possible... ;)

Again, my best wishes continue to go out to all my friends and their families and every one else cut up in this DESTRUCTION... :(

Hold on guys, hope all will be back to normal as soon as possible...

A client I had in down-town NY has send me an SMS two days ago that he didn't had power any more and he will come back to me when he will be ok... Tomorrow will be the third day with no reply... I really worry... hope all is ok...

I just want to say to be patience and to prioritize all things need to be done to restore all your stuff.

Be positive and don't let depression to put you down...

All will go well...

Just evacuated to a friend's place upstate from my dorm. No way in hell was I gonna leave my RED gear behind, thanks for your thoughts and concerns Mark!

Just got power and water back an hour ago. What a long week. My heart goes out to those who lost homes, property, pets and even loved ones. This was no picnic for many. We all take so much for granted and often forget just how lucky we all really are ... back to reading posts about people bitching about price reductions of digital cameras ...

Its pretty bad here... been since monday at 8:30PM since I last had power, but thankfully I have a generator to keep me going and my girlfriend is able to take warm showers in the morning before working at the local hospital.... but not everybody is that lucky here... some people have generators, some do not but the gas shortage (and stations with power able to pump gas they do have) is insane. Lines for gas 6 hours long, or an hour and a half long drive before you get to stations with lines only 3-4 cars deep.

Im conserving gas right now so almost everything is off in my house and I'm just using a laptop to browse RedUser and get some work done but I'm currently in my office that has a window towards the front of my house... and its almost like nobody lives out side those windows.. there is just the slightest rumble from my generator, and the occasional car that will drive buy but other than that I feel like I live in an abandoned town. A town that used to be so lively, now strangely quiet.

Along with the quietness, it looks like a war zone. Trees down everywhere, wires on the ground or hanging over the street. and all kinds of debris near peoples houses where wind or falling trees destroyed their property. Luckily, trees that fell in my yard did not hit anything causing damage but people in my town were not as lucky.

I hope we start getting power back in the area soon. Even if the residential areas don't get it back right away I'd be ok if the main strip came back so friends and family as well as myself could get a hot meal from a local restaurant and get out to feel somewhat normal again.

Until then. I'll continue using my generator and helping friends out in the local area. If you are in New Jersey and you need something, if I can help you I will. Shoot me a PM or e-mail me.

These images were hard for me to look at.

Hey New Yorkers, and all effected by the storm... keep strong. After having been through a similar shared experience in Japan last year, our thoughts are with you.

Ivan

Things are settling down now but there are a lot of people without power and gas. There arealso long gas lines and some looting.

I have power back and after long trip to Pennsylvania I have more gas than I'll need. I'm helping out some local friends, giving them gas and such. No looting in my area though...not that kind of area so I'm happy about that... Although one of my friends reported that one of his neighbors got a gun pulled on him while walking his dog because the owner of the house he was walking by thought he was trying to steal his generator...
