  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

good lightweight camera slider?

I have the 5ft version...great for concerts etc where I can make quick reframes if someone is standing in front of me. I don't know what tripod Rob is using but my 5ft will not fit in a tripod bag, it's huge and it would be a pain to fly with. Unless you fly a ton, I would recommend the 5ft.

Guide rail aluminium slideway profile that is used by DP Dolly track can be found in many hardware shops and then you can choose size what you need (2ft, 3ft, 4ft,...).

Not sure if this was pointed out before or not, but FYI for those that are still looking into the Dynamic Perception option:

I just had to email my setup for my rig to a client. But this is the Glidetrack XD hybrid slider. 2 years ago I contacted Glidetrack and wanted them to build me a slider to handle the REDone. So they took they XD, and made it like there HD hybrid. Works great on REDone and Alexa, EPIC and SCARLET. They begun selling the XD Hybrid this year, but this is the first one they made. I would recommend this company, based out of scotland but will cater to your needs. The only thing I added to the prototype was a 100mm bowl on the bottom of the slider so you can just drop it on your sticks. And baby cardi's for weight transfer. the 4 feet adjust well for low shots and leveling.

I own a Dynamic perception dolly for some 5D time lapse I had to do.

I'm not so sure it would work "well" with Epic/Scarlet. Maybe a stripped down one with the battery off camera and a small still lens on dead level surface ? Plus I don't think there is anyway to use the MX2 box to fire frames on a RED (if there is I would like to know) . Haven't tried it because the 5D ( in stills mode ) shoots a 21 mp(?) pic which is more mp's than a Red anyway. Having said that I have done great time lapse with Scarlet set to 5K 1fps a sec without the need for the dynamic dolly MX box combo.
