New HP workstation commercial has some nice little tidbits of info about the 6k post on Gone Girl. Good to see Peter and Tyler get a little camera time :)

Nice commercial, and very nice movie as well.

Thanks Jarred.

Yet again underscores how RED has revolutionized image capture and post.
Just bought my first 4K tv for the home. They wouldn't even be on the market today if it wasn't for RED's vision. Keep peeking over the horizon!

More important than the actual computer (truth be told, you can rip through 6k in Premiere on even a 1st-gen MBPr when you preview at 1/4res), is the storage size/speed and corresponding network (presuming it's on a SAN.) And I recall Cioni saying the network was like 1.8gb/s throughput (or was that for their 8k quantel)... Now *THAT* is pretty crazy.

No mention of a Red Rocket card, was it used?

No rockets. They edited Offline Quicktime proxies and then would generate a pull list/EDL for a custom tool of some sort that would use REDLine to render out 6k DPXs for the online After Effects comps. The final Online Edit was then rendered out to DPX for Lightiron.

But yeah, the real horsepower was in their network and storage apparently for the AE comp stations. The Proxies are lightweight on both hardware and storage. And with the live link premiere would just render the AE comp once and then use the cached internally generated proxy for speed.

Dang... Great commercial and that movie was a great one too.

Very nice. The one issue I noticed in the commercial though is the assistant editors computer. His computer that was show was obviously running OS X. Did they make the HPs into Hakintoshes, or were they just used to debayer the proxies and DPX files?
