  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Gobi Desert!!!

Thanks everyone for the responses. We still have 2 more big missions and a bunch of post work to complete this project. Most of this was shot from sticks and one little dolly. Now we will start bringing in our 1000 ft cable cam, heli's and many more gadgets to take this project to the next level. Wish us luck. Cheers and Happy Holidays!!!!!

hi dustin, I wonder the kind of music you used? is there a name or a genre to it?

don't worry about the indifference of cinematography people in other forums.
some could be spiritually blind!

Some of it was music from china that we recorded but most of it was composed from several riffs by someone in house it think. Not positive but that's what i remember Jeremy telling me. I live in cali and the post is done in Canada so i am a little removed.

Advice

Dustin,

About to take my Red into a third world country for 6 weeks and was wondering what your advice was on portability and how you kept the system lightweight and safe? How did you deal with the data?

Tom,

Hey sorry it took me a bit to get back to you. Just got home and have been away from computers.

I carry my camera, lens, cards and computer stuff with me on every plane ride. I have a computer pack and a camera pack that goes with me local or around the world.

I build my own custom camera packs by using expensive high density foam, a special band saw, and the right pack (that will need modifying so find someone with an industrial sewing machine). It seems like it takes me a few days every time I outfit one for the camera ill be using. I’ve done all kinds for film and digital cameras over the years and still have yet to see another that's as tight as mine!!! Never cheep when it’s all said and done. But its super important for me as I ski and walk from sun up to down with cameras on my back.

This is why I also have an extremely light and compact RED set up as well. A friend of mine fabricated our own top mounts that are super light that have many mounting options. My top handle is a peace of petzel webbing. I use the battery belt clip with the 6ft cord. The battery has it own spot next to the back up and it never leaves the pack. I have the smaller RED monitor and a EVF but the montitor is way lighter and easier to deal with. I really want the bomb evf. High quality but light weight lenses are key for me as well. Lenses of my choice: RED 17-50mm with a doubler, Duclos 11-16 wide. I rent others (primes and bigger zooms) but those wouldn’t live in the pack.

My media is simple: Small Mac Book Pro, 2 Glyph Porta Gig Firwire 800 Hard Drives(very small and reliable) and four 16gb CF Cards with a card reader. I check my footy out on RED Cine and when I get home I send the drives to my boss!!!

Anyways, that how I roll. I’ve skinned that cat other ways but that’s my norm. Hope that helps. PM me if you have any other questions and have fun wherever your heading?

Cheers
