I put in an order for 6 globalmediapro V mount batteries, Globalmediapro Li160S-R Lithium ion Battery 160WH for Red Camera retailing for US$ 299.00 and just got them but what I got were Globalmediapro Li160S Lithium ion Battery 160WH as written on the batteries retailing for US$255.00 ..... without the "R" for RED on them. Then I looked at the pictures on the website and saw that batteries for both products were exactly the same with no "R" for RED cameras on either product.
My question, is there a difference between both products and how to identify the difference or are we all getting the same product and bring charged higher cos we own RED cameras ? Has anyone received Globalmediapro V mount batteries with Li160S-R or in the other sizes they come with an R on it after ordering the batteries that are sold for higher because they are supposed to be for RED cameras ?

I've been under the assumption that the "R" series batteries allow for percentage level rather than voltage information to display on the LCD. I do not have first hand experience with GMP batteries, however. What does your readout display when using your GMP batts?

My understanding is the diff was how it enabled the battery-level display in the viewfinder. Have you actually tried one on the camera? I confess I am puzzled by the "R" spec versions. I have bought 150wt V-mounts (chinese-sourced from another company, but exact same unit as the Global) with no "R" spec (so, I presume they are the same as the ones you have??) - and they work beautifully. I get a "VOLTAGE" display in my viewfinder. I understand some batteries will display as "xxx%" instead. I don't know if that is the case with the "R" spec Globals.

Hopefully they only charged you for the lower priced battery you received? I can't imagine that the +$45 AND the return shipping, etc will make the "R" spec. batteries worth it.
Keep us posted on how you work this out with Global, since a lot of new owners seem to migrate to that company (Hint: there are cheap/better deals for the SAME batteries on ebay!)

The site literature, this is what it says, "The Globalmediapro Li160S-R is specifically designed for
RED cameras (Red One, Epic and Scarlet). Charge information is displayed on the Red camera's LCD monitor."

Unfortunately the V mounts to my Scarlets from RED only arrives next week which is when I will test the whole setup with the GMP batteries. Been using RED volts up to now.

I got charged the higher price of US$ 299 with an 8% discount to US$ 275. Off to ebay to see what is on offer there.

I have written to GMP and will update as it happens or not. :-)

Yes, the 'R' batteries from GMP display the percentage on the LCD. It might seem like a small thing but it is really useful as the camera also gives a warning when the battery runs low and in the end shuts itself off. When you have only voltage you can drain the battery too much after which it is a pain to recharge it again with batteries failing to charge at first - not fun when you're in the middle of a production.

I am not quite sure how it works but there is a magnet in RED's battery plates (and compatible ones) that activate a reed switch in the battery which I guess activates electronics in the battery.

By the way, if it doesn't work then try to move the magnet inside the battery plate around a bit. I have a WC battery plate that I got working this way.

from what I've heard, you have to be upgraded to a current firmware get the % info, instead of volts. It's odd I know, but I've heard a few places that it actually has worked in some instances. Just curious, I'm in the market for buying batteries as well, (will need them fassssst) I've researched the batteries (chinese ones) on ebay, and they are SUPER cheap; and almost the same exact build as the global media pro batts, but! What my concern is; is having the correct contacts from my red cradle, to the battery. I understand the V-mount is universal and everything, but if you look at the original red bricks, and these batteries; there's different contacts. Since these guys (the ever-popular globalmediapros) I'm hoping and crossing my fingers for the chinese-ones to work just as well. They're all coming from the same place anyway... But; Whats your two cents team? Any one have any good experiences with ebay deals on batteries?

I'm going to buy two of these GMP batteries, along with a charger and see how they fare. I'm contemplating picking up some of the same ones on ebay (the lesser expensive ones)... wish me luck! I let you know how it goes!!

I'm with Stu on this one.

I've had 3 in my possession for months now and have never had any issue. Batteries perform just like RED, Swit or Blueshape ones, except that they don't show the percentage.

If you learn how to read voltage or press the status indicator button on the batteries, the lack of percentage is not an issue.

Beillen is the OEM of the GlobalMediaPro batteries.

I got my RED battery plates yesterday and set up the batteries with the cameras and it connected with no issues whatsoever to power up the camera. Monitor displays battery power in volts and if you go into the power menu you can actually see the power sources, voltage and the time left per source since on mine I had the REDVOLT in the side handle and the GMP battery on the plate which was displayed on the monitor as brick.
Only issue was I thought I could hot swap the battery on the battery plate letting the REDVOLT in the side handle power the camera while swapping. To connect a new battery was no problem as power would transfer from the side handle to the battery plate but disconnecting the GMP battery on the plate would cause the camera to shut down. Is this how it is supposed to work or does anyone know a work around.

Thanks

We had that same problem, so we sent in our side handle and red fixed it. I'd recommend starting a support ticket.

anybody sucesfully bought (or have seen so far) GMP batteries in HOT DEAL AUCTION on globalmediapro? i am wondering if i should wait another couple days (they are hot dealing their GMP products) or they are promoting just not so interesting stuff. 20-30% OFFwould be sweet...

Where can this HOT DEAL AUCTION be found? I did not see anything on their site or eBay.
