  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Global Shutter - is it possible for RED?

The point is that we (or seemingly no one else) can do a sensor with all the specs listed above AND a global shutter. Pick your poison. Can't have them all... today.

Jim

Well.. not actually "no one else", some cameras have mechanical shutters
AND a CMOS imager. While not the same as a global electronic shutter,
they do eliminate the jello effect. There are two that I can think of off the top of my head.

Mechanical shutters and reflex viewfinders do cost a bit more to build though.

A mechanical shutter (4u) has no, or little practical advantage to a sensor with a 5u read-reset time. And neither is the same as a global shutter.
