  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Global media pro batteries for scarlet

Make sure you buy the GMP batteries specifically for Red, the other V-Locks don't power up the camera

Sorry to bring an old thread back to life, but does anyone know of any workaround to fix this as i just received my GMP battery and discovered this.

I don't know if this was mentioned before, but I just got a GMP battery - the RED specific kind and I don't see the battery % on my screen, just the volts. I'm using the MG1 Concepts Epic V-Mount pro.

Really? I thought the non Red specific batteries just didn't communicate battery info to the camera. Have you tried them, they really don't power the camera? Send them back and trade them in for Red specific batts.

I have a few I using happily.

Cheers,
Damien

from Red.com ; I don't which firmware you're using, but this has been the case for quite a while, and does so with some batteries and not with others, be they Red branded or not:

Operational notes specific to Build v3.3.15:

- Use camera brain HD-SDI and Sync ports for 3D work
- Do not 3D sync when GEN ICON is yellow
- Camera powered by RED BRICK may display voltage instead of battery capacity on some cameras.
- EVF black level raised in some cases. Use Shadow adjustment as required.
- Image Magnify is available during preview only
- HD-SDI is True Progressive and does not support 1080i or 1080 PsF signal formats.

Cheers,
Damien

Ben,

I had problem with GMP batterie non red and wooden camera Vlock plate. But with the Viewfactor Vlock, I don't have any problem with all my GMP (Red or not Red). I don't care about % life, i prefer voltage.

I've contacted customer support and thus far received a less than helpful 'you bought the wrong one' post. Of course, I didn't. I didn't want or need the percentage of the red battery and there was nothing mentioned on the website stating or even suggesting the standard one wouldn't work with it.

Hopefully they'll come back to me with a suggestion to resolve this but my first use of their product plus my first experience of their customer support have been substantially underwhelming. Will update when I have it sorted.

EDIT: To say I have non Red-specific Beillen batteries which are obviously exactly the same manufacturer as the GMP ones and they work perfectly.

My response is to esquire which cameras the battery IS listed as working with, as there is no list of any kind on the product page. Quite astounded by that attitude tbh.

So yeah, my first and last ever dealing with Globalmediapro. Booo...

The "non red" Global Media Pro batteries will work with your camera if you have the correct plate. I know that the Viewfactor plate will work. RED and Switronix won't. This is how it was explained to me:

- Viewfactor plate does not have the terminal pins connected for battery data- RED and Switronix plates are wired correctly to display smart battery data
- GMP batteries carry improper voltages on the data pins which prevents the camera from operating

Hi guys... Sorry hijack but thoug it was a dying thread.... How do you connect the GMP batteries to the camera? Red gear or other make? I've been looking at either the simple Red belt pack to LOMO or the vastly more expensive DSMC module pack.
thoughts please..

Simon

I have the ViewFactor plate. Fab. think they even have a new "budget" model now...

Just to double check, will any V-mount with 5 pins sockets instead of the GMP 95wh's 6 work with the Swit v-mount plates?

Was looking at

MG1 V-mount Pro is quite awesome. I upgraded to their new 2.5 Version. Much better than before. They now have Pro packages compatible with RED cameras. MG1 160-R are fantastic...but need to get more.

Went with the Tilta plate and it works well with the GMP batteries. £400 has bought me a 15mm rod plate and 2 95wh batteries. Very happy indeed. It only reads voltage on the screen but then hey, I know to worry at 11.7 volts!

So I'm trying to read through this and figure out which batteries work with which mounts. I'm looking to buy a battery/mount/charger for my new scarlet. I would like it to read percentages.

I can't afford the VF mount. $700 for a mount is a lot. I've tried to talk to MG1concepts to buy their full kit but they are horrible at getting back to me. Their website is currently broken.

I was thinking about going Wooden Quickback V2 w/ the Switronix mount they sell but people here have been saying the % readout doesn't work? Is that true? Is there no way other than the lights to tell how much life is left?

I'm really just looking to see what my options are and compare price, quality, and whether the % works.

Thanks!

The Wooden Quickback is probably one of the best ways to go for mounting. I have the Switronix plate, and it does read percentage. Part number GP-S-EPIC10. This is the one designed for Epic/Scarlet (not RED One). Switronix makes several V-mount plates so make sure you follow this part number. They also have the GP-S-EPIC20 which has a 20" cable as opposed to 10". It doesn't do percentage readouts with all batteries, you have to get batteries specifically designed for RED. GMP makes RED specific batteries, if you get the wrong ones they will not give you a read out, some people have said the wrong ones don't work at all? I'm also using the latest firmware 4.0.10, and readout is working fine.

Thank you very much for the reply. I can't wait to finally get batteries. I'm sick of waiting for the MG1 to get back to me.

I also have the WC/swit/GMP setup and it has worked wonderfully for me for the past year. The batteries read percentages, charger charges quickly, plate works well. The only issue that you'll encounter with the swit plate is that the P-Tap ports will occasionally pop a fuse. Fuses are cheap (like several cents) and available at Radioshack. The P-Tap ports on the GMP batteries are rockstars and I've never had a single problem with them.
