Global media pro batteries for scarlet

That's nice to hear Lliam. I haven't had an issue with mine at all and have been running Scarlet and power off DTap nearly daily since I've had the camera. Sounds like you gut the ugly duckling out of a batch :(

Yeah I think your right Phil. The way they have responded actually tells me that this can't be too common. Glad to gear yours are going strong and I'd hazard everyone else's - or I'm sure we would have heard on here.

Hey guys,

Does anyone know or have experience with the GMP Anton Bauer Li160A Lithium ion Battery 160WH? Will it work without issue on the Scarlet?

I understand that they won't communicate the percentage to the camera, but would I be right in thinking they'd communicate the voltage?

I'd be using them with the Viewfactor AB battery plate. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I'm using those very batteries with my Scarlet. So far no problems in the first week. Been shooting / testing the camera every day.

I understand that they won't communicate the percentage to the camera, but would I be right in thinking they'd communicate the voltage?

That is exactly what happens. Voltage is displayed, not percentage.

I'd be using them with the Viewfactor AB battery plate. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also using that Viewfactor plate and love it so far in the first week...

I'm amending this post in order to soften my language and achieve a more balanced report of my customer service experience with GMP:

In addition to my aforementioned V-Lock batteries (and charger), which all work really great, I also purchased some Gold Mount batteries and a corresponding 4-channel charger (for my Leader 5330). That other charger arrived defective, with one of the four bays not working at all. GMP's solution was to return this unit to their repair facility, located in China (where the product is manufactured and repaired).

GMP provided me with shipping instructions to their China P.O. box, but the instructions were unfamiliar to me such that I managed to select the wrong shipping method, at the assurance of the post office "expert." Resultantly, the carrier was not able to deliver to P.O. boxes at all! The charger was subsequently lost in the Chinese postal system (it has been 7 weeks now) and neither GMP nor the post office have been able to retrieve it.

After six weeks time, and many frustrated emails, I was ultimately asked by GMP to wait 10 more days, after which time they have now offered to sell me a new charger at a 50% discount. They had also previously offered to reimburse me for the errant shipping costs. I have agreed to accept these resolutions.

For what it's worth, I would also like to add that despite my ongoing frustration and many disgruntled emails from me and my business partner, the customer service agent has been polite and cordial, and GMP did also provide me with a substitute 1-channel travel charger free of charge - which was great!

I think GMP is a great company with a great product, but anyone who uses these tools to earn a living needs to anticipate that support will come from mail correspondence overseas. This is all clearly stated in GMP's published policies.

All the best,

- Jordan

Hey Jordan,

Many thanks for the clarification, it's great to know that it's working well for you. I just need the Scarlet itself, but it looks like the wheels are turning now :)

Good and not so good to hear about your experience with customer service. I hope you get everything sorted out!

Anyone using a cheap travel charger to charge those GMP 160Wh batteries ?
More than price, i'm looking for somehing as small as possible, as i don't want to carry the classic big 2-slot charger (or worse, 4 slots).

HI Yannick ,

The replacement one they sent me for free is small. Not much bigger than the RED volt travel charger. SC1.
Just a one channel at plugs into the battery, that lists as $30 on the invoice they sent me. Only jut arrived but charged fine first use.

I would also like to take this opportunity to point out that Global Media Pro has some pretty egregious customer service / warranty / repair policies...

In addition to my aforementioned V-Lock batteries (and charger), which all work really great (so far), I also purchased some Gold Mount batteries and a corresponding 4-channel charger (for my Leader 5330). That other charger arrived defective, with one of the four bays simply not working at all. GMP's only option (despite much protest) was to return this brand new, never used, defective-out-of-the-box unit to their repair facility, located in China!

GMP provided me with shipping instructions to their China P.O. box, but the instructions were vague enough that I managed to mistakenly choose the wrong shipping method, which apparently was not able to deliver to P.O. boxes at all! The charger was subsequently lost in the Chinese postal system (it has been ~7 weeks now) and neither GMP nor the post office have been unable to track it down.

After six weeks time, and many frustrated emails, I was ultimately asked by GMP to wait 10 more days, after which time they would offer to sell me a new charger at an un-specificed discount. 10 days are coming up this coming Monday...

Needless to say, I am pretty disenchanted with doing business with a company who, due to their offshore location and wire transfer payment method, basically offer their customers next to no recourse if anything goes wrong (if they accepted credit cards, one could theoretically dispute the charges until the matter was satisfactorily resolved).

For what it's worth, I would also like to add that despite my ongoing frustration and many disgruntled emails from me and my business partner, the customer service agent has at least been polite and cordial, and GMP did also provide me with a substitute 1-channel travel charger free of charge - thankfully!

I think GMP is a mostly great company with a mostly great product, but anyone who uses these tools to earn a living needs to understand what sort of support they will be getting, and what the potential risks are. "Buyer beware."

All the best,

Hey Jordan,

Wow that sucks. They were very specific with me about airmail only as it's going to a PO Box. Maybe you were the catalyst for that specificity they are now employing.
It blows having to send back to China. Cost me close to $60. However as that's where the items are made and repaired, no surprise really this has to happen, and to be fair GMP does disclose that they don't have a standard factory or outlet upfront.
I see it really as the price of saving several hundred dollars on other options, but customer service was very fast and exemplary in my experience. So I think buyer beware may be a bit harsh. Buyer be aware? Certainly.

Best Wishes

Can anyone with a switronix V-Mount and GMP 160 battery tell me if they're able to remove the battery from the mount without using the release button? I can pretty easily just pop the battery off the mount with medium force... way less force than I think should be possible. I can't budge the batteries from the charger without using the release, but I actually had a battery just fall off once when moving the camera.

Do I have a faulty mount?

Lliam,

I agree with you that perhaps my language above was a bit too harsh. 50% of the "problem" was with me and also with the post office, as we collectively interpreted the GMP shipping instructions in the manner that led to the non-delivery / lost package in China. After receiving a note from GMP today I have decided to edit the language of my original post to clarify these points. Also, I can additionally clarify that they have now explicitly offered to pay for 50% of the cost of a new charger, as well as reimburse me for the shipping fee. I do think this is fair - I just wish we had arrived here much sooner. Water under the bridge now.

Hi, got my Globalmediapro li1690S battery today (bought the one that said for RED camera) and hooked it up to my Scarlet using the IDX/Quickback system from wooden camera. The battery works fine and powers the camera, but the precentage just shows 0% no matter what I try. Now I'm wondering if it's the battery or the plate thats faulty. How can I tell if I got the wrong kind of battery? It has a sticker on it that says:

Compatible with RED:
R-version []
RR-version [X]

So apparantly I have the RR-version of the battery whatever that means. Can anybody who has a battery like this that works (showing correct battery % remaining) check if you have the R-version or the RR-version?

I have the RR version and Pro-X plate from Wooden. Mine reads out the battery percentage and is very accurate. The only time I had problems getting battery % I had not full seated the battery on the plate.

Tried to uprade firmware to see if it was the camera, but no such luck. Still says DC 0% on the LCD. How can I really find out if it's the plate or the batteries? I looked inside the plate, and there was alot of glue and some dodgy soldering, don't know if it's wired correctly, but if someone could take a picture of their plate I could maybe compare? I'm sure I've seen a picture of the inside of a pro-x plate in here before, just can't remember where...Here's what I found when I opened mine:
