It's heavy....like I'm talking 30 second takes max heavy.....but hell, I got it balance and I can't wait to get it balanced perfect. Ideally, I'd have the battery on the base plate but don't have a belt clip for it or cable long enough....and the Samurai is my monitor because I don't have a longer LCD/EVF cable for the red touch. So, it def needs work, but the point is, I'm getting great results with this non-recommended setup :)

I used Glidcam HD400 with X-10... fantastic combo with my Epic-X

Kwan, is this correct: Glidcam HD400 = $500 and the X-10 = $2400. so give or take, it's $3000 for a serious steadicam set up for a Epic/Scarlet?

...cos it looks shit....thats why :)

I posted this out of excitement that I actually got a half decent balance without an arm/vest AND without a detatchable battery plate. Today I had the idea of using the Samurai as my monitor because the HDSDI cable reached! So like I said, I'll post some footy worthy of posting when I get the balance perfect (with battery down below)....is that okay?

No.

No it's not.

Or is it?

I don't know.

The video does exactly what the thread titile states. Matt managed to get a good balance with the Scarlet/Glidecam. I found it interesting to watch him using it and seeing how it fly's.

Check out what he can do with a 5d/Glidecam setup, its impressive: https://vimeo.com/18467488

Matt, we dont all have guns like yours so I would say the x-10 is a must!

Looking forward to seeing what you do with this combo.

Hi Matthew, having spoken to Martin on here, I'm about to buy a 4000 soon. So appreciate your post.

30 seconds max? Seriously? I'm getting on the juice. I'm aiming at a good minute :))

Hard to see in the vid, so that's a v mount with what size battery? 160W?

What lens you have on?

Have your tried with side handle + redvolt instead of Vmount?

Thanks mate

Best

I'm at two blocks away from B&H. I bought Used X-10 ($1500) and used HD 4000 ($500) from them (just for test but then decided to keep it - lol).
They usually get this in used department, check out there site frequently...

I've flown my friend Ben's Epic with my X-10 and HD 4000 before, and now my Scarlet fits perfectly on this rig. It's a great solution to make camera moves.

Correct! Although many would argue that it's not a serious steadicam rig...I personally can't wait to get it happening :)

Thanks for the nice post Matthew.

Some would argue that it is a serious Glidecam rig, as in, it can deliver super-smooth shots.

;)

There are now thousands of people using the Glidecam 4000 Pro in a setup like Matthews.

:)

Hey Lliam,

The 30 second thing was what I could consistently get but for the first few takes you might manage a minute or so :) I'm using a Swit 88Whr which is fairly small and light in comparison to others I have (130 and 190). I have tried with the side handle/redvolts but found it more difficult to balance and since I want the battery (weight) below anyway, I wouldn't use that combination. The lens is a Nikkor 24mm Ai, but I also tested it with the Tokina 11-16 and that worked great too. This setup with the battery on top is definitely not ideal...I'm looking forward to getting weight off the top so I can be confident using this for short runs without the x-10. And finally, I plan on having a DP6 monitor on the bottom instead of the Samurai because the Samurai's screen isn't really bright enough to use outdoors and I imagine is heavier with a drive and batteries than a DP6.

Cheers :)

Thanks Harry :) You going to Vegas (NAB) ?

more expensive rigs are faster and easier to balance, no tools required, have all connections prewired and they are built to last;
but if we're talking about how good and steady your steadicam shot is, I'd say 90% is about operator, not the rig;

Thank Matthew, appreciate the response.

I'll test with a redvolt, but expect I will fly with my V mount on a belt clip.

I think I'm going to purchase the arm brace to even out the pressure off my wrist and across my forearm too.
Where are you finding your key fatigue point?

Best

Lliam
