Hi, I think this'll be an interesting thing to discuss because it'll settle this debate about the Scarlet is aimed for...by hopefully displaying an array of Scarlet Setups...I'll kick it off...

Scarlet - $3000
8 x CF cards - $1600
Two Universal Mounts - $250
Two Top Mounts - $500
Handle Mount - $150
Two Handles - $500
Top Handle - $175
Matte Box - $1000

Macbook Pro - $4000

Total - $11,175

Here's the package I'm contemplating:

Scarlet - $3000
5.6" LCD - $1,700
5 x CF cards - $1,000
Two Universal Mounts - $250
Two Top Mounts - $500
Handle Mount - $150
Two Handles - $500
Top Handle - $175
2 x CF 12" rods - $80
matte box - $0 (already have)

Total: $ 6,355

Hmmm, kind of resembles the setup in the brochure. I wonder if they'll offer that or something similar as a package?

Bare essentials is the idea.

Scarlet - <$3K
8GB CF (x2) - $400
Microphone & related gear - ~$200 (assuming it supports audio)
DOF Adapter & related gear - ~$1200
Extra battery (x2) - ~$170
Still lenses - $210 (already have a set)
Inexpensive shoulder-support - ~$80
Basic filter set - ~$100

This excludes the basic tripod and lighting equipment I'll need.

Final: ~$5,360 (not sure of Scarlet's final price)

5.6" LCD - $1,700

wow.

It comes with a 4.8" LCD. You'll spend another $1,700 just to go up to 5.6'?

I'm just not sure it's worth it, for me at least. When I shoot run-and-gun, the 4.8" will be fine. On set, I'll use the HDMI out to a large (and inexpensive) screen/monitor.

If I had the cash, maybe I'd consider the 7". But I want to keep the rig as small and light as possible.

My set up:

Scarlet - $3000
Gorilla Pod Pro - $50

Done.

Well, maybe a few other things, but I love that I can put Scarlet on my $100 tripod or $400 CamCrane jib arm.

Also, I may get 2 Scarlets.

Scarlet - $3000 ?
8GB CF cards (x4) - $800
Extra batteries (x2) - $200 ?
RedRockMicro Base Plate - $250
RedRockMicro microShoulderMount & 15mm 18" Rods - $350
RedRockMicro microMatteBox Deluxe - $695
RedRockMicro microLensGears (x3) - $150
35mm DOF adapter (either Letus EX or Brevis) - $1200
Set of Nikon lenses - $2500 ?
View Factor Inclino & Impero digital follow focus - $1675

TOTAL = Approx. $10,820

That total will depend on the final specs and price of Scarlet, and whether it includes an XLR input or not (I already own a Senheiser Shotgun Mic & cables). Also, I'm waiting to see what ND filters with built-in IR filters cost, so I haven't added them in yet.

This also assumes that 35mm DOF adapters will work properly on Scarlet. The 3K resolution may be too much for the ground glass. Testing is needed before committing to any 35mm adapters.

Also, it remains to be seen whether RED comes up with their own Base Production Pack for Scarlet, which may or may not be less expensive than RedRockMicro's version I included above.

To me, this would be the ultimate Scarlet setup. Fully decked out, and well below the price of a RED ONE body alone. 3K with 35mm DOF at 120p onto CF cards. Awesometastic.
:sorcerer:

Go to You Tube and search “HV20 on steroids part 2”. That’s the DOF adapter I am testing at the moment but with the HVX200 instead. Latest tests are looking amazing. My plan is to use it with Scarlet. It has a 2 ¼ by 1 5/8 inches ground glass and uses Mamiya lenses. 3K output with medium format lenses should look awesome.
The rest of accesories at this moment is wait and see for me.

This I would get:

Scarlet - $3000
8GB CF cards (x4) - $800 - more is better
Extra batteries (x2) - $200 - especially then you are in a location
Some sort of shoulder support rig, not necessary from red, as cheap as possible.

Total ca. $5000

But to sum up this:
RedRockMicro Base Plate - $250
RedRockMicro microShoulderMount & 15mm 18" Rods - $350
RedRockMicro microMatteBox Deluxe - $695
RedRockMicro microLensGears (x3) - $150
35mm DOF adapter (either Letus EX or Brevis) - $1200
Set of Nikon lenses - $2500 ?
View Factor Inclino & Impero digital follow focus - $1675

is total: $4320

Now, in principle, I just can't justify spending >$4000 for gear to get 35mm look. Only because scarlet is so cheap. Spending 100% of the actual Scarlet cost for the gear giving me so little compered to camera.
Yes, I love 35mm look and all those creative possibilities it gives me (I have redrockmicro box), but Scarlet and 35mm adaptor, in my experience, is economically unjustifiable choice. (unless it is absolutely necessary to have that 35mm look)

I assume that Scarlet will be ready to shoot out of the box. That's all I need.

Hopefully with Red Drive

Hopefully with Red Drive

Camera body $3,000.00
Matte box ? $800.00
LCD $1,750.00
handle extension $175.00
hand mount $150.00
top rods $250.00
Right & let Handle $500.00
bottom rods $250.00
red drive $1,800.00
drive cable $200.00
red cradle $750.00
2 universal mount $250.00
2 cards $400.00

$10,275.00

Microphone & related gear - ~$200 (assuming it supports audio)
DOF Adapter & related gear - ~$1200

What kind of Mics are those? Logitech? :)

The 35mm adapter setup wil very likely go to 2000-2500 $.

I think you need a little more cash for those.

But - not so much more :).

Scarlet - <$3K
...

Final: ~$5,360 (not sure of Scarlet's final price)

I would not bet on Scarlet costing 3000 USD next year. Even if it is made in the US, they will have to use some imported parts - and US inflation is no joke, either. I figure the price is better stated as 30 barrels crude oil.

Unless there are some new announcements of Super Scarlet, I guess mine will be:

Scarlet: 3000¤
Exchanging zoom lens for lens mount: 3000¤ (could be more)?

Other stuff is either reuse what I have, or it is supplies (like CF cards) rather than accessories.
A 9.5mm Distagon T would be very nice, though...

Scarlet $3000
2 CF cards:$400
Red Drive: $900
Red handles $500
dv dolly setup: $1000

$5800

If it's got a 2/3 inch chip the only reason I'd need a lens adapter is if the lens isn't interchangeable. Which I can't imagine they'd do since they sell their own lenses.

Anyway, all you guys tallying up the cost of 35mm adapters can probably cross that one off your list.

Where's the line for this thing start? I'll go buy a tent and some trail mix now :-)

Scarlet ~$3000
4 8GB CF ~$800

Hopefully I can get a setup that's ready to shoot for under $4k.

RED has already said that the lens is non-removable. It's a fixed 8x zoom lens with a T2.8 max aperture (subject to change, of course).

2/3" CMOS will give much shallower DOF than 1/3" CCDs, but not 35mm DOF. If you want that with Scarlet, you'll have to use an adapter.

Sorry, Jim already firmly stated that the lens is fixed...

Hey guys, I'm New Here but I think he is right, check this, for a 3K scarlet you still need a DOF adapter?, thats bull. The scarlet's specs seem great( save for it's fixed lens), Let's wait and see, I'll rather stick with some cheap camcorder and a Letus for less than 4,000 $. I seriously hope it's point and shoot WITHOUT A fixed LENS. jEEZ, Let them Just give us a damn PL mount (How hard can that be?)

Dumbest. Thing. Ever.

Charge me the extra $1200 I'm gonna waste on an adapter and put a PL mount on it so I can buy Red's lenses.

If this thing has a fixed lens I don't want it.

Whoever does't want the fixed lens at this point please move along. You can buy the Red One, it has that feature.
