Hi, all. Post this question in the RED-related sub Reddits but we couldn’t find a resolution, so I thought I’d try posting here while I wait for RED support to get back to me after the weekend.
Traffic lights on my KX (v.2.08) shows clipping in the shadows of the red channel while highlights are fine. Gioscope shows clipping in the highlights but shadows are fine. Readings seem at odds with each other.
I was under the impression that while the waveform works with the altered rec.709 image, but that both the gioscopes and the traffic lights worked with the RAW image so you could monitor exposure as the sensor ‘saw’ it. They should be showing a commensurate reading, right?
Changing ISO doesn’t affect the output of either the gioscope or traffic lights monitoring tools, as expected. All gioscope colors turned on. Turning ‘Log View’ on does not affect read out.
If I up the ambience in the room by a couple of stops I can get the traffic lights to show a little clipping in the green channel. The black area on the also gioscope increases.
If I crank the aperture from wide open at f1.5 to even as high as f8, I still can’t get the gioscopes to show more than a little purple while the Traffic Lights show massive data loss on all channels.
Can anyone explain why this is happening and how I can resolve it?
I have a monitor through which I can monitor exposure with the EL Zones system, but, being as the SDI outputs a LOG signal that is dependent upon ISO settings, I’m never getting an accurate read out of what the sensor is actually seeing and being recorded.
