Just got a Raven, I already own a Ronin M, I am wondering what would be better, keep the M and retro fit to run the raven, or buy the bigger ronin, and really have nothing to worry about?

I have a Raven and Ronin-M, and would have rather just sold the M and bought the bigger one instead of putting more money into retrofitting the M. With the extensions on the M, you can't use briefcase mode which I really like. I bought one Redvolt-V batter to use with the Raven and Ronin-M, but I still can't balance it with my Canon 11-24. I could buy the weights from DJI, but more money hassle and time configuring different setups. With all the frustration, I usually just end up using my GH5 on the gimbal and not having to strip down the Raven and spend 10mins setting it all up.

Ok Brendan got it.. so with the Standard Ronin... do I need anything or can the raven go on there complete with battery and monitor?

You could pick up a Ronin V1 pretty cheap right now on the used market which will take a lot more weight. You'll have to retrofit either the Ronin M or the Ronin V1 to make it work with a longer camera setup. That dovetail from Cinemilled for example allows you to put longer camera setups on the Ronins.

On a side note for all of you gimbal users....there's a MASSIVE GB coming your way for a particular new V2 gimbal from a company that starts with a D and ends with an I. So be on the lookout because it's coming like a freight-train.

New RONIN M coming soon???

Honestly, get rid of DJI gimbals and get Gremsy H16 . This is from a person who owns a company and is the authorise & vendor listed reseller for these brands and have personally owned and used them. When it comes to Red or larger cams, instead of spending on the new DJI R2, the H16 will do wonder and if budget allows - go freefly M15.

Oh I don't know that! I thought Chris knew something, but maybe I read something wrong between the lines ah! Anyway DJI should update it! ;)

If you don't need full blown setup with Masterprimes/Cooke/Angenieux Zoom and FIZ, Gremsy H7 is plenty enough.
H7 is the lightest gimbal in the market (under 2kg) that can balance Red/Arri Mini with a lens up to 1.3kg and FIZ and Clip on ND (Schneider Xenon FF, Ultraprimes and such). With some counterweight, even more. I have been using H7 mostly for drone for over a year now, and it is great. Superlight and very powerful motors. If a gimbal holds in the air, it is easy for groundwork too.

I am working with Gremsy on a GB. More to come ...

but with the dji ex panders, and a battery mount, is my ronin m still going to perform as well as having the a7s on it?

Sorry to sort of derail this a bit, but anyone can tell me if a Ronin V1 work with a Weapon with Canon Lenses and XL battery, or will I need to go battery belt to power the camera? Will it balance or hit the back off the cymbal? Do I need the extensions? I have access to a good deal on an original, mostly mint Ronin V1 and am mostly going to use this with the Tilta Armor Man 2 vest and basically the 11-24 Canon, the 35mm and 50 mm Sigmas and maybe a 85 1.2 Canon and a 135 Canon.

Get the Letus Helix Jr. and ask them for the large camera plate and your gold. You can even power your rig from the letus!!

Ok, so since my last post I have upgraded the Ronin M to "Handle" the raven, and its not fun or easy. I am done with it.

What gimbals out there can simply handle the weight WITH the battery, lenses, whatever.

The Gremsy H16 is my first choice right now, unless someone can recommend something similar in price.

Thank you.

Any updates on a GB for the Gremsy?
