Hi
I just purchased a Ronin and I know the weight is going to be an issue. I've even checking out everything out there to help with that issue from L'aigles exoskeleton and tilta armor man to the easy rig and ready rig. I know it's a 'to each their own' kinda thing but I'm interested in getting a general consensus. Share your experiences with the various rigs and your thoughts.

I think the ex's are more versatile. Action Products looks to be the winner.

What's the point of a spec poll on things not quite out yet? Shall we add the helium balloon zero gravity support? Really, jokes aside. Put the poll out once they're out on the road.

Not really sure what there is to joke about. The EZ Rig has been out for years and when Ronin first came out they began selling the gimbal/ezrig as a bundle.
Ready Rig GS has been out and is already sold out and currently on back order.
l'aige's exoskeleton although not officially out has had it's prototypes and final models tested so it's not crazy to assume that there is someone out there in the reduser network that has had the opportunity to try one out.
Tiltamax armor man is currently selling and their are reviews on the reduser site but I thought it might be useful to have all insight on one thread.

There's always that one guy with something smart to say I guess.

I did a 14 day shoot with the ronin and lomos kitted out way over the Ronin weight limit. Shooting twelve hour days running all over the place.

Couldn't have done it without the Klassen Slingshot. It may be ridiculously pricey for what you get but it also works.

It doesn't smooth out the movements but it definitely shifts the weight and makes moving the camera around easier than the easyrig set (which I tested with the flowcine add ons).

Hey Patrick
Thanks for your input. The Ready Rig GS is a similar design but a a lot more compact. It also retails for $2000 compared to the Slingshot's $4900.

I'm pretty surprised how many people like the easy rig. I haven't enjoyed it that much and I think it is very overpriced. But I must say, a lot of people I respect swear by it so whatever works for you is the one to use.

there are some facts that you have to consider and that facts are valid for all body mounts.

People with different body structures , different training and shooting techniques, and different body weaknesses like and feel confortable with rigs that other dont like.

As a steadicam operator for many years I had no problem with Tiffen vests from the old 3a to the ultra cine. When I tried a walter Klassen because of my body structure and size it compressed my waist and gave a instant pain in my back after 5 minutes of wearing it. On the other hand 100s of operators swear how WK vests changed and extended their operation life using the WK. Now I have a exovest from Tiffen and its the most comfortable vest I ever had period.

Easyrig vests are the same. The older design vests when fitted well and adjusted its ok. The new gimbal vest is a much improvement by at least 40% so I feel its better. Nothing close to my exo vest from Tiffen. But it doesnt cost 5K either . and 5k is the Tiffen exovest. dont comfuse this with the exoskeleton, the exo vest is the original tiffen steadicam vest designed by Chris Fawcett.

Conclusion

As far as comfort its a very personal thing and you need to test each solution
separately and also fit it properly by an expert your first time, because that makes a big difference, wearing the correct size rig, and also adjust it correctly

As far as stabilization effect you need to have operational experience and learning curve with body mount solutions and learn how to use them first to get the best results. Some are easier for some and some arent. Some dont even capable of stabilizing and just take the weight. For some there are companies like ours that made add ons to convert them to stabilizing devises. You will need to see all this and ask the specialists for each product.

Best place is a show like Nab, IBC, and many other shows around the world, and most if not all of the companies are present

so your best impression will be after testing the total set ups of each bodymount one by one fitted from the specialists and explained from them.

anything else will be just speculations from people that as Bob Gundu says have not tried them all and certainly havent tested properly.

LAST and most important to consider is the service and customer support in your country.

Kind regards

lol,no matter what, always the last word with you Constatine. Totally agree with your conclusion.

I wouldn't even consider using the easyrig alone. But Easyrig + SERENE is a pretty sweet combo ;)
Haven't looked back since I got it.

Nils I had a friend recommend the serene and I know flow cine is making some pretty cool gear but just always felt like the EZ rig was incredibly overpriced.

Constantine, thanks for your response. Those are factors that I didn't think of as much as I should have. Maneuverability and versatility were primary factors for me but then what's the point it's completely uncomfortable!

No prob. We also make exovest (tiffen)and Walter Klassen to easyrig arm adaptors now.

Since a very big amount of our customers are steadicam operators, and many own back mounted vests like the exo vest(tiffen) ofr the walter klassen, we made this adaptor ,so they dont need to buy the easyrig vest, since those are exceptionally good vests and already bought by them.

so this way many choices for many different people.

kind regards

I've got the Tiltamax Armorman. I'll be posting a review of it soon. In terms of it's maneuverability, I love it, and it's far better than what an easy rig/serene/puppeteer offers, but the easy rig is more widely used for gimbal support since it's been on the market a lot longer.
