  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Getting RED Brick through TSA

Not in the US.

Can't say the same for Mexico though...They tried to say I couldn't travel with the batteries or my camera at multiple airports. If you travel international, in my experiences make sure you have your customs paperwork on you prior to bording any plane outside of the US.

I just flew for the umpteenth time with my 3 160wh Global Media Pro batteries, that are 20wh stronger than red bricks. And I had no problem. I took the batteries out of my pelican case, and in their own separate container and had no problem. I usually have one in my case on my vmount plate with the connector near my camera to prove that it's connected.

Okay, well I hope I don't run into any issues. I thought I vaguely remembered something about not being able to bring aboard more than 144wh's for 1 battery.......then again I may have just misread something?

TSA and DOT rules regarding larger watt hour batteries over 100wh is you can have one installed in the device and 2 spare in your carry-on. Batteries over 300wh aren't allowed. You'll be fine with 2 red bricks in your carry-on, 3 if you can have one installed on your vmount and able to prove you can power the camera.

Be prepared for a bomb swipe since they x-rays can't seem to penetrate the RED body.

haha Yup...like clockwork. Except DIA for some reason. I get through there with no issues.

I have been to Mexico numerous times now with my camera and several bricks and havent had a problem, except TSA likes to rifle through my bags and scratch everything up. I haven't tried to carry any bricks on my carry on though.

I recall someone saying that putting a battery in the charger makes it count as 'on the device' as well.
Not sure if you can have more than one device in carry on.

Gavin, made the same mistake, only to realize with a small camera, the counterweight and 3-hour-run time of a 190Wh battery is choice... so to anyone else, I say get the best of both worlds, three large and several small... because you can take three large guys and then as many <100Wh as you like.

Just went from the US to Italy and back-w-6 REDVOLTS, no problem. However, my Scarlet, (which was carried-on), was bomb-swiped yesterday at the Turin airport. No doubt it was because it was a smaller airport and the x-ray operator had probably never seen one before. One other word to the wise: be careful about the weight of your luggage. It seems that the airlines (especially foreign carriers) are getting real chicken-shit about the weight of your bags, even the carry-on's. My hunch is that it is an extra revenue booster for them. We flew business class, which had a larger check-in bag allowance, but they even weighed our carry-on's! That was a first.
