  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Getting Ready to Make Leap to DaVinci Resolve Studio -- NLE Comparisons Appreciated

Though they have gone bankrupt twice. Just sayin'.

My point is that there are multiple options out there, and one doesn't necessarily need to change platforms or NLE's or anything else. There are lots of good tools that work well, not just those from Nucoda.
Wrong again Mac.
Digital Vision had a couple of reorganizations and buyouts, but they had never filed for bankruptcy. That is as if your insinuation could change the fact, that you're arguing about something, that you have zero knowledge about. Your insistence on misstating facts about something, that you never even used is baffling...

I think Digital Vision makes good products, but I'm concerned about their long term stability as a company. In truth, there are quite a few hardware/software post companies that are not in great shape.

Note that daVinci Systems was in good financial shape, selling lots of 2K's and Resolves, but went bankrupt because their parent company, Acterna, went under. A lot of these businesses are kind of a house of cards, and there's been a lot of disruption and chaos in post during the last ten years.

And once again, how does that has anything to do with the quality of their products?
Being myopic and only supporting a single company with "everything free" philosophy can only lead many good companies to abandon the market. Lamenting about it and actually supporting those companies can go a long way...

And once again, how does that has anything to do with the quality of their products?
Read my line again carefully, two or three times, until it sinks in:

Once more Marc. Your backhanded compliments about the quality of the products you never even used, as well as insinuations and outright misrepresentations about a great innovative company- Digital Vision, still have nothing to do with the quality of their products. Despite your statements, Digital Vision NEVER went bankrupt, unlike DaVinci and they are doing just fine, thank you very much. Saying, that they on the brink of going under, as in "I'm concerned about their long term stability as a company" can't be helpful. How about instead you help that or any other small company by actually investing some real money in their products, rather than being a mouthpiece for free software. If you continue on this coarse, you may get your wish, when there will only one company left on the market. Can't wait...

Oh you kids. You've killed my thread.

Starting a Kickstarter for a Celebrity Deathmatch production between Marc and Jake ;-)

They definitely didn't kill it. if anything i kept reading thru cause of it haha. We need a little spice in the mix here and there.

I just bought a used unregistered resolve studio dongle for $550 on ebay. There were a few more on there. Might be a way for you to save a lil Joe if you decide.

I've heard of people doing that. Those dongle's, are they eligible for the latest version, 12.5? Any catches or risks? I'm leery about doing that is all.

They're up all the time in the $250-$350 range, usually from BMD camera owners who decide they don't need the dongle.

So far, Blackmagic has been very generous with software upgrades and given them all away for free for the last 5 years. It may not last forever, but it has so far. I think even if they charged $99 for a full Studio version upgrade (like from v11 to 12), I would be surprised if anybody really complained that much.

Getting ready to make the leap. Can users in the know please offer a no BS or biased review or comparisons of DaVinci Studio Editor vs. longer established NLE's such as FCP X or Premiere?

Well,

I have been on the fence fore awhile now, had the PP suit, and FCP installed... Then I also got the DVR free download...

Because I just don't have the time to learn multiple platforms and UI which even as similar as they can be are very different, and because I prefer to learn a system that is all within the same platform, and without the need to worry about Round tripping, no mater how easier has become, I at last removed both FCP & Adobe PP and went with DVR Studio...

Now I can concentrate on learning this system and do all in one platform.

Of course I am not to be a Professional Editor/Colorist, this is for my personal use to work on my Fashion Films and small Projects... When time comes to work on big projects, then I'll give room to a Professional Editor and a Professional Colorist... :)
