Hell everyone,

I unfortunately had a little incident on the last project I just shot, and long story short my camera got caught in the way of a sprinkler for about 30-60 seconds before my camera team noticed.

It was the end of the shooting day, so we turned the camera off and pulled off all of the modules in order to dry things off, and, the next day, everything seemed to be working. That being said, the producers agreed to pay to send the camera in to RED for a checkup for peace of mind.

However, I just saw that you cannot walk in to RED Studios Hollywood anymore to drop off my camera, and instead are required to mail it to RED Irvine for repair.

When I bought this camera in 2015, I picked up every major part of the camera in person at RSH because I did not trust the mail system with such an important/expensive item. However, in 2020, I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TRUST OUR MAILING SYSTEM TO BE EITHER SAFE NOR TIME EFFICIENT for political reasons we all are aware of, but have no place for discussion on a camera forum (for reference, my next project starts on the 21st so I would need this all turned around in about a week).

So while I completely respect RED's decision to limit it's employees and customers to Covid exposure, I feel like there has to be a middle ground of some sort that can provide peace of mind to RED's customers. Because at this moment, I would rather lose money on the job by renting someone else's camera package, than risk my camera disappearing permanently because our mailing system is currently screwed.

If there's any REDUSERS who have needed repairs in the last couple of months and can speak on their experiences I would love to hear about them!

Thanks everyone!

Reach out to your bomb squad rep (calling is usually faster) and if see if any exceptions can be made. They're usually pretty good about such things, and they were hand delivering the custom colour Komodos in person for the last few months.

Awesome! Thank you for the heads up Mike! Will do now!

Interested to see how you go with this, from my understanding repair and support for DSMC1 is limited and there’s no guarantee they’ll have the parts required to fix your camera. Hopefully it’s smooth sailing

Yeah, contact bombsquad and see what they say. Otherwise, I've had zero issues shipping via FedEx, which I believe is RED's preferred vendor, anyway. Pay for insurance for worst case scenario/extra piece of mind.
