I saw a few videos for this Genustech Eclipse Variable ND:

I was interested in buying one (my first variable ND) to cover me in run and gun situations with multiple lenses. I am considering buying a 82mm and stepping down to my other lenses. Has anyone here an opinion on this particular filter?

I was hesitating between several Vari NDs (like Eclipse, Tiffen, Heliopan), but finally went with the Tiffen HV ND filter kit. You should check it out:

I got the ND 0.3,0.6,0.9 and 1.2 kit, it comes in a nice pouch so easy to carry and use... I still need to test it, but first impressions are great! Now I want to get the Plus version with the IRNDs (1.5, 1.8 and 2.1 + polarizer).

I have heard good things about it. If memory serves me, someone here did a comparison between it and the Heliopan, and he preferred the Genus. FWIW. I have the Heliopan and am extremely satisfied with it. However, it is more expensive than the Genus. A couple of things: (1) Make sure the Genus has front threads. Some ND faders do not have front threads. For instance, the Heliopan sold in the US doesn't. I had to import mine from Germany. With front threads you can then add a Hot Mirror filter and a lens hood. (2) Get the largest size you can to accommodate your largest diameter lens, and then use step-down adapters so that it can be used with your smaller diameter lenses.

Thanks Bill. Ok I ended up going with the Genustech Eclipse version ND. Got it in 82mm so should work on the Canon 16-35 and step down to all the other lenses. Will go and test it when possible and post my results for anyone else you is interested. Shipping was free and was incredibly fast from Hong Kong to Miami.
