Hey all,

Just found this on the RED's youtube and didn't see it posted yet.

Thoughts? The above sea nighttime stuff looked great.

Holy shit! That was fucking incredible!

Not trying to be overly negative or critical, those are nice shots from a good shooter - but as a demo of Gemini, I don't think it is any better than numerous similar shots from other users with Epic-X and Dragon, etc. so not sure all that "incredible". (If I have a criticism it would be that the whites in the shark belly and the yellowtails are a bit blown out or overexposed in the grade.)

In clear water like that (which is what it is like in most of the top diving locations in the Caribbean like Cayman, Cozumel, Bonaire, etc. or Pacific in Indonesia, Philippines, Fiji, Palau, etc.) 100 foot depth is not really low light. At ISO 800 it's probably F8 or higher.

It's a common misconception that underwater is low light. In reality there is usually plenty of light - the problem at depth is loss of color (red is attenuated very rapidly) so you need very powerful lights (like 7000 to 15000 lumens) to overcome the available light and get good colors. Red raw is amazing at pulling back colors at depth, but there is also often advantages to adding some artificial light.

Maybe would be cool to see some before graded stills.
