  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

UPDATED https://youtu.be/FGHCnFH1iJE

EDIT:I switched some clips out that were not so drastic in exposure, left the red dot clip in for the sake of convo, switched everything to IPP2 and used Red to Rec 709 transform luts Red provides, different contrast and different roll off for each clip. The red dot clip I saturated a bunch and did some other things to pronounce them a bit more

So I got my Gemini yesterday, pulled it right out, went outside, 24 fps project, 96 fps, didn't mess with angle, literally tossed on a milvus nikon mount 35 and shot some stuff, the last shot is a leica r 24 which is my 95% time use lens on my Epic-W 8K, all hand held too

I will shoot some more daylight stuff tomorrow since I actually now have the camera setting how I normally shoot, I am pretty sure the shutter angle was at like 280 or something crazy lol, like I said I pulled it right out and shot some stuff for fun thats it

also oddly I am having issues with any of the clips showing up in RCX, they show up as offline.....

I see, just search on the forum and found that it's a known issue especially shooting with small aperture to the sun.

On Dragon, the red dot pattern was a problem caused by using the LLO with a small aperture, pointed directing at a round light source. Then STH fixed that.

Which OLPF did you use?

I always shoot directly into the sun without nd for flare and never get the dots like this on my epic or scarlet, I have seen it on the raven, I didn't even notice it until I uploaded and when I have experienced that on the raven it was waaaayyyyy worse, it should be mentioned this is d2g4 also, I spent no time setting the camera up at all just shot a little for fun, it's standard olpf, low iso probably around 400 ish, the sensor does feel much more sensitive than my epic-w even in standard mode. I will do some actual tests later maybe

nothing scientific about this guys, just hanging in the backyard on my birthday with a bottle of eagles rare shooting around for fun, I will have some real world stuff next saturday when I have a shoot, I will post up the full film when it is done next week

What f-stop were you at? Yeah, I thought this was corrected with Dragon sensors onward with the OLPF :O

I have no idea what I was shooting at, just playing around in yard

My understanding is that standard OLPF lessens this vs LLO but STH removes the dot flare altogether. That's just based on Phil Holland's samples. This video does look pretty rough with the blown sky, red dot flares, low contrast and saturation that just looks washed out... What curve settings is this? I did notice in Gemini tests that it tends toward lower contrast than helium and Alexa with default looks.

this was in legacy mode, literally right out of the box, probably shouldn't have posted but whatever, I have 600 hours in uncontrolled lighting on my helium, never saw the dotbut I take the footage with a grain of salt, there was no corrections or anything done to it

Yes I'm familiar with the internal reflection dot issue when the iris is closed. So standard Olpf produced that? I'd love to see low light tests if you can do some? Does anyone know if the usual epic w olpfs work with Gemini? Or are they specific to the sensor? I'm very interested in that sensor but mostly for how it shines in low light which helps that plus over cranks too

I am 99% sure the olpfs are the same, I am headed to my office today and will shoot the regular epic-w next to this at the same time using similar lenses

Thanks so much for doing the tests!

RED dots happen when shooting into direct light and stopped down. Think that's the sensor being reflected. Had it happen to me too. WTF are those red circles!!!

Hey y'all I shot some hand held outside my store front an hour ago, uploading to youtube in 5K now, lut=IPP2-709/gamma22-med contrast-roloff1

all shot at f11 with tiffen variable ND filter, I didn't have the time to grab my normal firecrest nd's

footage looks basically like a normal helium sensor when in standard mode to me

will post when uploaded
