Ok I have managed to PRY a beta unit from the man himself...Joseph of GearNex and am going to shoot with it on Sunday on a PeeWee dolly for a commercial shoot...i'll fill you guys and gals in ...but let me just say....of ALL the DP toys on all the NAB floors this one little unit has me more excited then anything else...I LOVE gear heads and am REALLY looking forward to testing this bad boy out!

stick around!

I can't wait!!! I am going downstairs in the hotel now to pick it up and will try and figure out how on earth to get this through carry on for the plane trip back...:)

if only I could get the video OFF my eyephone I could shoot it in my hotel room and send it on over...LOL...more in a bit...

Ok so I ran down stairs ( well I tried to act all normal after all it's a Casino hotel with a million guards and cameras on ever flat surface of the building) to meet Joe who just called to let me know he was waiting out front by the taxi stand ( I am staying at the Wynn hotel) upon arrival I see him standing outside the car...and if any of you have met Joe, he does not seem the type of guy to wear a HUGE grin on his face all the time..he is very serious about what he is doing with this head as I found out talking with him on the floor at the NAB RedUser party, so I ask him, Joe whats going on? and he says " your not going to believe this but Jim Jannard just bought the first unit from us" he says beaming as if god had stepped in and given him the green light of approval for even thinking of making a Red accessory, let alone coming out and showing it at the sacred Red Super meet..I said..wow congrats man thats great! and he says..."as if that's not enough for one night a MAJOR distribution company( I did not get the ok to name them from Joe) of Film and TV products just told us they want 500 units right away, they have customers lined up to buy them" I was pretty much speachless..I knew this unit would be a hit when I first landed eye on it on the reduser board. I could tell that was the only toy I would want to see and own at NAB in a child like fashion of pure toy lust so when Adobe brought us out I made a mental note to make sure I would check out the unit no matter how hard to find or how tired I was ( I am literally about to fall asleep right now) so after much hugging and grinning I bring you a few REALLY SHITTY midnight stills of this badass unit from the 56th floor of the Wynn in Las Vegas!!!

It don't get much better then this!

THanks Joe...I ...can't....wait...to...use ...this...unit!!!!!!!!!

if only I had a RED in my hotel room!!!!!!!!

shit!

I can't post images!

Yeah, it's a great unit. I ordered one last weekend and checked it out in person tonight at the Reduser party; I can't wait until I get mine! I told myself I wasn't going to get more gear right now because of the economy and because I blew so much money on Red last year, but this was too good to pass up.

Ok so from a state of total exhaustion all I can say is...this thing really feels solid, well made, and professional...can't wait to test it on Sunday. I am going to shoot a broadcast TV spot Sunday and plan to use it, take some pics of it in action with a PeeWee dolly and see what it's made of..:)

stick around!

btw it looks like it has 2 gear modes, HIGH and LOW!!!! sick guys!! balls out sick!

This one is really interested but I'm more curious in how it will do with a little larger zooms? I know it's specs might not be for it but, thinking of that EPIC will be smaller, do you think it's possible to rent an Optimo 24-290 for your test? So you can give an "estimated" feel for it?

he he he!!

I had to work it REALLY hard to get this unit...Joe will tell you, I was about as direct and on point as I can get...pulling every trick I have in the bag to get my dirty little hands on this bad boy!!

ha ha ha... rental not needed, I will show this thing to Brian and WIlmington Camera(used to be JDC camera) and he will stick that bad boy on my Red or his red promptly...and I'll report back..maybe with video on what we find with that monster lens...:)

from the feel of this unit I am betting the more weight you throw at it the smoother it will become...just a guess at this point.

Anyone in NC feel free to come over and check it out next week....I know..I live in the woods..but hey, the offer stands!

Cool  thanks man. What I'm really interested in is the feel of balance and if the image will be stable at 290, since I have a few bad boys that are even worse then the Optimo :sifone:

OK...got this bad boy on a PeeWee today...let me get a few pics up for viewing in a few min...

fits nice even though this is a beta unit..Joe told me it will ship with a Mitchell base once production ramps up....slick....

This unit being a beta has a few small things I would fix on it and make better. I spoke with Joe about it at length this morning...the really funny thing is that every single point I made he already has plans for fixing in the final shipping version. What a breath of fresh air that was..I have never spoken with someone that's got a new product and had them remind me that every single point I made they are working on for the final...:) good stuff...
