  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GearNex brings affordable gear head for the RED

GearNex Pre Order

GearNex Pre Order

looks good but I'm kinda sick of this whole pre-order thing. Especially with what happened with viewfactor and Birger...

We wish we didn't have to do a pre-order, but do to the specialty of the product which requires machining, hand assembly for proper balance and much more, we just can't get a way from it. Once we get an idea of the demand and if it stays consistant, then we can get rid of it. But keep in mind, that is why we are selling it for $2,000 less for the people who pre-order it now.

Rowland, we hear you loud and clear. It's a shame some companies took advantage but since both owners come from the production side, we know what its like for the end user. We will make every effort to get it to you as soon as possible.

Also, as I explained in another response posted, we need to do it in the beginning until we can gauge the demand. The good news is, the people who order now will get it for almost a third less compared to the normal price of $5,995.

Thank you for bringing this issue up, we have already addressed it by creating an extension shaft for the handwheel for just those type of applications.

Will I be getting the shaft? :) (sorry, couldnt resist)

Is the extension included or an extra ($) accessory? Will it be ready with the first units?

Thanks.

combination head

combination head

I'd guess the last thing most operators would want would be a combined head which was even bigger, heavier and more expensive than either type. But if you were able to make one of comparable function, bulk, weight and cost I'm sure you'd sell bucket loads! :Simone:

That is correct, weight is an issue as well as getting the gears to disengaged and not cause resistance. It would be very large, heavy and bulky too.

Thats funny, no the Shaft will be included in the first shipment at no additional cost.

Anyone know if it's cable, belt or chain drive? I want to try one. Kind of a bummer it's only 2 speeds. Any word on reduction gears?

Nick
It uses gears and the different size optional 4" and 6" hand wheels will allow for more variation in speed control.

Not to deny that this product exists (it obviously does), but is that original image you posted a photoshop mockup? The holes, screws, and the red "Gearnex" plate look a little off.
At the time of creating the website and the business plan, we did not have a fully finished product to take a picture of. The only thing we had was the prototype which was to ugly to post, ask Torrey. Remember, the first Apple that Woz and Steve jobs made, think that. If you look at the tech page, you can see parts of the actually product right off the line before getting anodized.

It would be great if you had a set of reduction gears. I'm sure the head is smooth, and different size hand wheels help, but when your on an 800mm lens, reduction gears are really great ;-)

Nice looking head, anywhere on the east coast to check one out?

Thanks,

Nick
The unit has been made to be a compact geared head for today's cameras. We have designed it with the idea that larger or smaller wheels can also compensate for speed. At this time, we are not planning on adding any reduction gears.

NAB in Las Vegas is considered our debut and we hope to have some distributors on the east coast soon where people may see it.
