Nick-
I'm number 54 on the list and put down for a LW Follow Focus but based on what you said to Joost, could you please put me down for the Studio model as well (so 2 follow focuses: 1 studio and 1 lw). Depending on price (which is probably the biggest consideration) and how both seem to share components based on the website and schematics, I might be interested in getting both although I cannot commit unless I know how much it will cost. Thanks!
P.S. You might want to update Joost's follow focus count on the 1st post list as well. =P
Nick,
Could you please check what the exact gearing ratio is for the LW arm? It is not mentioned on the BT site.
It is apparently different than the Cine version and this was a HUGE problem in Elias's/O'Connor Photo DM, resulting in several full rotations on some lenses and ultimately my having to sell it. This is of great concern to me.
Please let me know if it is possible to have the LW version with the Cine arm if the LW gear ratio turns out to be too long for my needs. I don't need the studio setup, but I do need the standard gear ratio for my lenses.
Thanks,
CB
Hi Clayton,
Now see this, from BT
The Cine version is 35 to 19 which translates to 1:1.842 ( 1 turn of handwheel = 1.842 turns of driver gear). For reference the ARRI FF4 is also 35 to 19
The lightweight version is 1:1
Both arms are cross-compatible with the studio and lightweight version.
To calculate number of handwheel turns for a given lens
teeth = count the number of lens teeth from close-focus to infinity (i.e. lock-to-lock, which will be only a portion of the physical lens barrel!)
1) for the 43 tooth driver:
cine arm: turns=19*teeth/1505
Lightweight arm: turns=teeth/43
2) for the 35 tooth driver
cine arm: turns=19*teeth/1225
Lightweight arm: turns=teeth/35
of course if someone were to tell us: I have a lens with X number of teeth lock-to-lock, and I want to cover that in Y turns of the handwheel… and there were enough demand, we could build the arm that would do that.
Thank you very much
Fury
Hi Nick, so if one wanted to they could order the LW version of the Follow Focus with the Cine arm instead of the LW arm?
No.Cinec is done. Any sightings of the BT follow focus?
