How many decades will it take until we see a prosumer HD camera that can overcrank?

I agee. As more S35 cameras are becoming available I think there is a market for ENG-style PL Zooms with servo motors and image stabilization, etc... This market was generally well served by Canon, Fujinon and Angenieux. But, "Sony proprietary native lens mount", WTF?

But how else would you do it?

Can't be a B4 mount and it has to be something IMS-like physically but with multipin electronics for both the ARRI LDS and Cooke iData (photos show both are in the PL) plus multipin for zoom/iris for the ENG style.

Unless they were to wait around quite awhile to make a standard with Panasonic and (JVC, Ikegami who seem pretty irrelevant these days) they pretty much had to just design one. B4 pretty much became the standard because it was the "Sony mount" and Sony so dominated that they nearly wiped out Ikegami (and their B3 mount) and Ike, Pan, etc. had to standardize on the B4, so (although I think everybody may go their own way) if a mount becomes standardized it will be this Sony one.

And BTW I'll bet a glass of your favorite beer that the the "proprietary" mount and sensor alignment will be precise enough that we can make dumb Nikon, Canon FD, Contax, etc. mounts easily, and Birger can have a Canon EF smart mount ready in just a few months and possibly immediately if it is like I think it is.

my best guess - .25

This surprises you? From Sony? Proprietary? Who'da thunk it?!

But isn't the Epic a PL mount on a proprietary (albeit four screws instead of an IMS like bayonet) RED mount? Doesn't sound to me like it will be any harder to make other mounts for the Sony, and like the IMS it may be feasible to just rotate the bayonet for quick change.

No RAW. 35 mbit/sec. 1080P. The future is well known. This is not it.

No Raw! Has Sony not heard of Epic and Scarlet?

Once the new Red Cameras are out there will be no need to look elsewhere.

Could you deliver the ultimate surprise and say that Scarlet S35 will be shipping by April?

...and ALL accessories....? I'm talking full kit and kaboodle...if so you will have successfully robbed your competitors. And then I'll owe you a beer too.

Jim, What say you add to the NAB budget this year one hell of an after-party!

I've been to the past 12 NABs, and I gotta say, this one is gonna be one for the ages...

Woha, holy #%&#$@!!

It really surprises me that we have laid out a game plan and the big guys continue to fall short in their response (even though we are late!). They have the capability but refuse, for some unknown reason, to use it. It has given us a chance to move forward with new stuff. We just came up with next gen, quantum leap, world beating tech... 3 years out but it will be hard to compete with. They are allowing this to happen. It really is amazing. I can't sleep for what we are about to release and what we know about the future. If I were Japanese and making cameras... I'd be very nervous.

BTW... don't ask. We aren't going to telegraph the future anymore. :-)
