Future RED owners in Wash DC Metro area?

Hi,
Looks like I'm going to miss this one due to some family commitments. I hope to read a report here and meet you guys soon.

When we get #104 I'll post here about setting something up to let DC users meet the camera up close and personal before theirs arrive.

Have a great time.

Walter

Hi all,
I can still make tomorrow,
let me know what time people are meeting..

email is e.m.watkins <at> gmail etc...

Lunch and DC Shorts

Lunch and DC Shorts

Email me as well for lunch. RyanFilms with gmail too. Or just post more info here.

Anyone here have a film playing in the DC Shorts festival this weekend? I met one guy tonight at the opening party that has a RED reservation.

Tentative plans are for meeting for lunch at 1 to 1:15 or if you can't make lunch, meet at 2pm.
The film is showing in the East Auditorium (Modern Art).
We can meet in the Auditorium in the lobby around 1pm and then walk to the restaurant (underground) about 2 minutes away.
At 2 we can stop by the lobby again for anyone who didn't make lunch and then go up to the theater.

The East Auditorium is literally a seperate buidling East of the Main gallery.
The best metro stop is the Smithsonian. There are plenty of street maps around to find the building if you are not sure.
Parking around the mall is difficutl to find and they are enforcing the 2 hour limit. There are parking garages around if you don't mind paying through the nose.

It was great meeting Ryan and Ed. Sorry Adam couldn't make it. The film was interesting to say the least.
Adam suggested some Ken Loach films up at the Silver in Oct.

Hey guys, sorry I had to miss it. I agonized up to the last minute but there were just too many obligations that came up, and I would have paid a heavy price if I didn't address them.

As Joe mentioned, there's a slew of Ken Loach films at the Silver Theater in October. Ken will be there himself on the 11th. I'm trying to set up an interview with him so that day may not be the best. Sunday the 14th there's a double feature in the afternoon, and "Kes" is showing in the evening. Maybe meet for dinner and then see "Kes"? If you're not familiar with Loach, check out "Sweet Sixteen". It's a good introduction to his work.

Wow...I always log in at the wrong times and miss this stuff:poster_stupid: ...My wife had been in the hospital scince mon.(nothing too big, just some problems with her meds),but we didn't get home till late thursday night and I just finaly had the chance to see what was going on in here when, wouldn't you know it, you guys just met up today...lol...:angry03: figures:angry03: ...Hope to catch the next one...Let me know...Peace...

Mark, when are you going to be here, this week?
Andrew

Cool, Mark, hope we can all get together.

BTW everyone, Ken Loach cancelled his DC visit due to fatigue (he's in his seventies and has been overworked lately). So that's a bummer, but they're still showing a retrospective of his films at the Silver Theater next week.

The DC Film Salon is meeting next week if anyone is interested...

Mark, when are you going to be here, this week?
Andrew
I'm here right now! Just landed today. Helping with a symposium at the Nat Geo offices at 1145 17th Street NW. Staying in Virginia, first time to DC, really pleasantly surprised. Thought it would be more like London. Office number - 202 857 5802 just ask for Mark 'The Limey'.

Pretty hectic workload but there should be chance to hook up.

Cheers,
Mark.

And I am in Grand Rapids Michigan.......:-(

How long are you staing in DC?
Andrew

I'll be here until October 19th. Flying back to stop in the UK to sell some equipment then over to Sicily to hook up with the girlfriend, down to the south of France for the Antibes Film Festival to cheer on my latest short and then if all can be arranged down to Durban, south Africa for around 6 months to work on Tiger sharks.....full schedule.

Cheers,
Mark.

Mark, I wish I have such a “busy” schedule.
Looks like we will miss each other, well see you next time.
Andrew

Hey all, I'm new to the forum, I've been investigating Red a bunch lately, but haven't got the money to get on the list yet. I'd love to see one, I'm in Charlottesville, VA, I'm good on a set, and I recently began occasional trips to DC for work in Nat Geo- although in general I work remote from home. All this is to say, if anybody needs a hand with a shoot, give me a shout- I'm close by and compelled.
Maybe some of you will attend the VA Film Fest next month?

Update..
Had a nice dinner with Mark, charming fellow, lots of great stories to tell. Made me wish I'd spent some time in the South Pacific.
Taking him to the place he was staying in Alexandria, my gps went haywire and we ended up in Maryland for a few minutes, but I recovered and got us back to VA. With all the construction and alternative routes going on near the wilson bridge, my gps just couldn't handle it. Luckily Mark was a good sport about the whole thing.

Yeah Joe, great to meet you for an impromptu dinner. I think someone had a sense of humor when they made those GPS's with a female voice. The only time a woman can tell a man how to drive. That's gotta hurt sometimes....

Hope all is well and thanks again for the lift.
Cheers,
Mark.
