Hello everyone, I'm new here :)

- As I understand Red One doesn't support the Scarlet/Epic touch screen. However everyone says R1 has the same options/features plus minus a few things. But as I watched some video presenting the latest firmware features, I couldn't help but wonder how could R1 use all of those without a touch screen ?

Can you do with the R1 (with the included small monochrome LCD and the external buttons) everything you can do with Scarlet and the touch screen LCD ?

This is for powering an Epic :

How come it doesn't work with the RedOne ? Is the connector/cable different ?
But at least the voltage requirements between the cameras are the same ?

What power values are needed to power up the Red1 ?
Are these values ok ? DC output: 15V 4.0A

Navigation on of the menus on the red one is via the clickable joystick on the back of the camera under the lcd.
The power requirement is the same for the red one however the red one takes a different and larger lemo power plug.

Following up on Marcus' statement, you don't look at the mono lcd on the back, you monitor your settings on the 5.6" LCD or through the EVF, you just control them with the joystick.

So in fact you can have this menu, just like on Scarlet ? Except without touch screen ? That's great if it's true.
I was under the impression that you only get guide lines and things like that on the monitor.

From memory, on the R1 you do this on a couple of different pages. One allows you to enable each channel and another let's you select MIC/LINE and you get a 10db cut option along with meters.

Something like that. You don't get a 0-100 slider like Epic/Scarlet but it's usually enough to get you in the right ballpark.

At the moment I think the R1 audio is much more stable and predictable than Epic/Scarlet. I miss it...

Thank you for answers and some more questions :)

What would be the difference between a Nikon dumb mount and smart mount ? I'm guessing the smart one is used to control the newer electronic lenses. So if I only have old manual lenses, I won't have any advantages with a smart mount. Right ?

If I have a motorized remote follow focus will I still have problems with image shifting ? Will I still need something like "Optitek Nikon Pro Lock Mount" or that is only required for manual FF ?

Too bad the accessories from the Red Store don't have more detailed descriptions.

What can I do with the RED STATION REDMAG 2.5" ?
The description says "accepts regular 2.5" SSD and spinning hard drives"
But the Red One camera doesn't work with regular SSD, only with special REDMAG SSD.

What is the difference between RED STATION REDMAG 1.8" and RED STATION REDMAG 1.8" (MINI) ?
Only the size ? And price ? The RED STATION mini beaing cheaper.
The RED STATION mini also has a picture from the backside and you can see the ports and the description says you can choose between USB 3.0 or eSATA. Which one is faster ?
While the RED STATION REDMAG 1.8" doesn't have info or backside picture so I have no idea what does it offer and why does it cost more.

Yes, a Nikon smart mount can control newer electronic lenses. There is no advantage when using older Nikon manual lenses. A motorized FF won't make up for the tendency of a lens to breathe, which some still lenses suffer from.

The RED Station 2.5 is to allow you to easily plug in and use 2.5" conventional SSDs as backup devices for your REDMAG SSDs.

The RED Station 1.8 has Firewire 800, eSATA and USB 2.0 ports and can be AC powered or powered off the RED Station Base unit. The RED Station 1.8 MINI is bus-powered and supports either FW800 and USB 3.0, or FW800 and eSATA...depending on which model you choose. USB 3.0 and eSATA are about the same transfer speed...if you are using a Macbook Pro, only the newest Retina Display models support USB 3.0. If you are using a newer PC, most of them support it. Most laptops don't directly support eSATA without using some sort of add on card or converter.

Thank you for answers but I wasn't talking about lens breathing but the image shifting which occurs when trying to adjust the focus. I think the lens or camera literally moves because of the torque on the lens body/gear. There are some tricks to minimize this shifting. Using a bigger lens gear, the issue is minimized.

There were all kinds of discussions on this forum about that and someone said that with the "Optitek Nikon Pro Lock Mount" the problem is gone.
What I'm curious is - does the image shifting manifest also with a motorized FF ?

"The RED Station 1.8 MINI is bus-powered" - does that means it is powered by USB ?

the optitek pro lock mount makes your nikon lens rock solid. I have a se of Zeiss ZFs, they're very good (once gears fitted). I haven't de-clicked them, it has never been an issue really, but the pro lock mount lets you adjust iris smoothly anyway (if you want). I stick to cinevised lenses, always manual control

looking forward to getting two BT r1's to keep our epic company
