  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Full "District 9" trailer

I'm also looking forward to the film. Something Jonathan Smiles said above raised some alarms. He mentions all the different cameras used to make this film. Just a few weeks ago I saw Public Enemy and the only thing I remember right now was the noticeable differences in the different cameras used and how it took on a video look for a many number of the shots. I'm hoping that this film will not be as distracting. I enjoy going to the theater to see a story told. I can't stand when I see technical problems that pull me out of the story.

My other question is why if they had there hands on a Red camera why did they use cameras like the Canon AVCHD?

thanks

Nothing to be concerned about as each camera system was used for specific look or function and fits the movie, this will become obvious when you watch District 9.

The little Canon AVCHDs (HF100s) where used for CCTV look footage and where put into CCTV housings, which may be in-shot. You can't fit an EX1 let alone a RED One in the housing.

That is good to know. Public Enemy was really distracting with the different looks and the feel of watching video from time to time. Mostly when you see headlights on cars and such.

From what you explained it sounds like you used the different cameras to where they will not be distracting.

Thanks

I'm trying to figure out how they masked the alien craft behind the trees in the opening shot so well. They would have had to go frame by frame... damn... nice.

Judging from the difference in the sky and the trees/car. I would've keyed it, the sky looks pretty solid. Either a luma key or keying out the sky. That's how I would do it at least

I found this link. Half way down there is a long video. It seems to be the an original short or something that this film is based on or was create to do the feature film.

The short is Neill's "Alive in Joburg" whose concepts "District 9" builds upon. Look out for a clean shaven Sharlto.

Also have a look at Neill's "Tetra Vaal" short.
