I am trying to get as close to a full circle fisheye as possible on the RED for shooting fulldome/planetarium content. This lens is perfect with only a little clipping however it is APS-C mount and It looks like the camera controls the iris. Is it possibe to mount this on a RED?

Do you think I could have this lens converted to PL mount.

You could use the Nikon mount version with Doug Underdahl´s DX mount, or the Canon version with the Briger Canon mount.

Thats right, it s a camera controlled Iris. Is there any way I could control the iris. Otherwise would I have to jame the iris before fixing onto the camera body.

Would you feel comfortable swapping out a PL mount to Nikon mount on location? when using super wide critical lenses like this.

The mounts I mentioned will give you iris control.

No, not really.

The Peleng 8mm is available in PL mount - but maybe not wide enough for you?

I have plans to purchase the same Sigma 4.5 fish-eye lens!! I am planning on using the lens with my Birger mount. I already discussed the functionality with Birger. Erik from Birger said he would be happy to add the control to the Birger database.
Regardless, get yourself in line to buy the Birger mount. A thread that is nearly hitting 4,000 posts isn't because of lack of interest. If you order now you may still not see the mount for a few months.
I will be picking up my Sigma 4.5 Fisheye within the next week or so. I'll get the lens to Erik right away so that we all can take advantage of the features of the 4.5mm fisheye.

Hi all,

just today I got my hands on a RED, from Chris over at Lakeview Productions, and we installed the NIKON mount. I was able to test the Sunex Super Fisheye lens and well, it almost worked, but not quite. The 5.6mm gets cut off at both the top and bottom of the frame.

I'm going to look into the new Sigma 4.5 mm and see what I can get out of that.

I did hear that soon the entire sensor will be able to capture and output the image. Right now it seems to be cropped quite a bit.

Hi all,

Well here are a few things that I have kinda figured out and just want to put it out there. The sensor is 4520 x 2540, but 4096x2304 only us used. For fisheyes there are a couple of solutions, niether of which really work 100%.

The resolution of a full Sunex lens on the RED comes to 2640x2640 if you need the whole fisheye. Since it is a 185 fisheye, it can be cropped a bit, and 2540x2540 may work.

The Sigma, on the other hand, is already a full fisheye frame on the current sensor but only come out to a resolution of less than 1800x1800. This is unacceptible (well at least for my needs)....

OK just my ramble for the day.
