It is a fast lens for a zoom. Hope the price and image quality are competitive to the Red 18-85 zoom. Somehow I doubt that, but let's wait and see.

Good to see so many new lens choices.

I would suspect.......the quality will be along the lines of every top end zoom. We own Fujinon E Cine series lenses for 2/3, and they are top of line.....low breathing, low ramping and nice contrast. I would suspect this lens will be similar.

I shot tests with a prototype Fujinon Lens last year on my RED, and the results were spectacular. I have no doubt these new lenses are absolutely state of the art. Got to love the 2.0 aperture.

Fujinon makes, besides their own line of broadcast lenses, all Hasselblads optics. That should say something about what to expect about this piece.

Fujinon plans to further expand their line of 35mm optics later this year with:
quote from fuji hompage

14.5-45mm T2.0, 24-180mm T2.6, and 75-400mm T2.8 - T4.0 - with an anticipated delivery of December 2009.

All with similar front barrel dimensions and matched placement for gearrings.

Could be cool.

Probably Fujinon decided to take over cine PL zoom market with that series of the fastest S35mm zoom lenses.

They obviously know-how to make zoom lenses...

Also don't forget that Fujinon is a subsidiary of Fuji Film Holdings that is a monster sized and huge corporation.

Think Optimo, and not Rouge.
Gotta agree. The length of the lens and the speed is very very good. Zoom wise there's only really Cookes 15-40mm that has such a low Tstop. The fastest Optimo is only T2.2. Nice lens.

Paul

Not really. RedOne at 4k is 22.2mm x 12.49, so it'll cover slightly more yes. It would be just shy of covering the full R1 sensor though I doubt you'd notice any vignetting in the look around area.

Paul

Last year at NAB they had a mock up of this lens under a glass bubble.

It is Optimo 24-290ish in size. The nearest E Series 2/3" lens sells for around $60K.

Does anyone rent this lens?

I love the cine style 2/3 glass Fuginon has built. I was very informally playing around with this lens last year at NAB and it most probably was a prototype but I saw some significant CA issues in high contrast situations. I was also told it would come in at around 80 grand.

One of the early versions showed up at the end of the SALT test and was VERY impressive after a long day of torturing other great lenses.

Hey Paul, would you guys ever consider stocking this lens or any others from the same line? I'd love to rent one.
