Hey Charles, are you sure they are 1st generation? They look to me like Mark II's. The T1.3 and the built in focus/iris gears give it away (or at least I thought so).

I would also say they are MK2s. That being said as far as I know the Mk1s came with an Arri Bayonet
Mount and were usually later converted to PL.

So it might be that those were actually the first series that originally came with a PL.

Charlie's set is indeed version MK-1 & look really really nice.

The giveaway is the focus scale.
On a MK-1 lens they wrap 180-degree's around the lens in front of the focus gear.
On a MK-2 lens they wrap 360-degree's around the lens with feet in front & metric in back of the focus gear.

The predecessor to the MK-1's are the T1.4 B-Speeds.
Born as a B-Mount & have been either converted to PL-Mount or fitted with PL-Adapters
They have also been modernized by adding focus & iris gears as well as 80mm front rings.

Attached are pictures of a MK-1, a B-Speed, & a MK-2 . . . in that order.

Thanks for clearing that up Jeff!

Thanks to everyone who posted clarifying information. The Mk-I/Mk-II/Mk-III nomenclature is something that we equipment dealers have come up with and there is confusion about what it means. So I avoid using it at all. It is accurate to say the lenses I am offering are the first version -or, generation if you wish - of the T1.3, factory PL mount type of these lenses.

What people should understand is that there are FOUR different iterations of Zeiss high speed lenses for 35mm cinema:
1) T1.4 bayonet mount (late 70's /early 80's) these have triangular iris diaphragm openings & old 41mm stainless bayonet mount.
2) T1.3 / PL mount (Mid 80's:54mm PL mt introduced 1983). Faster T stop, circular iris, geared focus,180 deg. focus rotation
3) T1.3 /PL mount (Late 80's), Same as above, except 270 deg. focus rotation, later lenses have geared iris ring as well as focus.
New focal length also introduced at this time: 65mm T1.3
4)T1.3/PL (Early/Mid 90's-2002 ?) Often referred to as Mk-III type. No more dual metric/feet focus scales. Focus & iris engraved with large numbers. Focus is either feet or meters, all iris rings geared as well as focus. It is possible to upgrade a "Mk-II" lens to have Mk-III features. But it is expensive.

The lenses I am offering are the same as type (2) above, or, the first version of the T1.3/PL lenses. Hope this is clear ! Please PM or email me with your questions, offers, proposals of free vacations, wild flings or lunch.

Per Christian's request, here is a group shot of lens fronts. All glass, front and rear is clean in the image forming area. Some minor coating wear at the edges of some glass, esp the very vulnerable rears, but no scratches or chips.
