Like new implies it could be mistaken for new. No cosmetic imperfections. Almost never removed from the box / used in an extraordinarily gentle environment.

Excellent, "practically new," "very good," "very well cared for," all of these imply good working order with good cosmetic appearance. But "like new' means like new.

Source: of the 9,000 or so I've spent on lenses, all but 1 was used.

Its like new. I don't own any PL lenses. Tried a RED 17-50mm on it that wasn't mine but used lightly anyway.
